Surviving Minnesota!

Dear Chickeners - Good Morning still. Ralphie, I am going to do grandma duty shortly otherwise I would have loved to participate in the Chicken bath time. Guess What???? Its a miracle! This is the injured RIR that disappeared early this past week. I thought a Hawk or Eagle grabbed her although I questioned that or did not understand it because the dogs and I were both out in the yard and a few free-ranging hens. I was setting up a hospital room for her in the coop and boom! she disappeared. I looked off and on for her for four hours. Well, I went into my garage, which I have been in and out of several million times this week taking care of chicks in their brooder and just doing stuff, and there she was!!! Imagine that? I cannot understand how she survived in there on her own for a week. So now she is in a 'hospital' bed with food and water in the coop. I am one happy woman this morning. I really missed her. I realize she will be a special needs bird and I am willing to take care of her as a special needs bird. Her breast area looks awful still. But, obviously, she has chosen to survive. Off to Marties to get Turkey food for the protein.
I had that happen with a guinea! It went without food or water for 2 weeks!!! We finished the fence, put in 80 posts. Thank god for my uncle allowing us to use his post pounder!!

The following is a list of items I have just discovered my chickens do not like:

Warm Baths
Shampoo
Brushing with a gentile brush
Vinegar rinses
Glycerin rinses
Towels
Wash clothes
Hair dryers
Me
Mine love the blow dryer,

Sounds fun!

I'd like to visit. What breeds did you get?

I went over board on the silver penciled varieties. I like the looks of a silver penciled bird.

I have:

Appletinii Spritzers....

Polish

Yokohama

Then the non-penciled ones I got were the Cuckoo Maran. I am not that impressed with them.

I also have my CLB white sports. I have them all up off the ground in cages now. I like that. I have new breeding pens for my "normal" breeds.

When I took "WienerHead" and "KnuckleHead" out of the "dryer" last night they looked great. They also felt so soft and inviting. They were like big fluffy feather Pillows. Judy thinks I should not tell the judges the names of my birds. She thinks "Wienerhead, "Knucklehead", and "Captain AngryFace" might hurt them with the judges.

I just wish I had another month before the show so my birds could mature. I have so many feather with that waxy plastic like case or sheath on them. They are coming out of molt and not as pretty as I want them to be.

It did not freeze last night, I am thinking of going looking for a late late hen of the woods, but I know it is hopeless. I wish I could find just one more meal of mushrooms this year.

Do any of you know how to breed a long tailed breed? Do I have to trim them like I do the PC?
