Surviving Minnesota!

Klop, it has been my experience in life that females create a lot of work for us men folk. You are the beneficiary of some of that it seems. I think that the Scandinavian females are most dedicated to that. Thank goodness I had the foresight to marry a Polish/French Canadian female. I tell my wife that French Canadian is the result of the Frenchmen consorting with the Native Canadian population.

Ralphie, there will be no chicken hugging going on here. This is serious business which will not be turned into any yuppie foo foo adventure. I will hug the dogs however, as they are truly lovable creatures that treat you with respect and love even when sharing their dog house.

I should have saved a pair of hip boots from going to Dakota...because it just got really deep in here, Ed.

Speaking of boots.....what brand of hunting boots do people recommend? My daughter age 12 (sniffle sniffle) will be deer hunting for the first time this year. She has sat in the stand before with her Columbia boots and all is well but this year she will be doing the hikes and "chases" as well. Husband is a loyal Irish Setter man.....I have Columbia boots with the throw away toe warmers.

"Rockies" might give you a good pair.

I'm shopping for Barn coats. DH has been yipping about me wearing his carharts in the coop during the winter. He's not real appreciative of the cecal poop stains. LOL. Should I do a canvasy type barn coat or a diamond quilted rayon type?

NO Nylon. My Dad's nylon jacket caught fire and the nylon melted into is his skin causing 3rd and 4rth degree burns on entire upper body. The burn doctor specialist (whom we got to know quite well) said if he could destroy every bit of nylon (especially jackets) he would in a heartbeat. Just my 2 cents. I too tend to grab my husbands black carharts. Who can go wrong with durable and mostly wind/waterproof?

More serious - Carhart in just the right size and color. You are worth it and you will be wearing it forever. Washes nicely and the poo will be easy to scrap off. Maybe the mites cannot penetrate it either.

I am also a fan of Carhartts!! I have no idea of their mite resistance. but after Gregs\'s night in the coop in his recliner we should have a better idea. Instead of raising a middle finger to me, he should thank me for volunteering him to perform this public service.

I got the rest of the birds done and washed. I even cleaned the floor. I think I am done with straw. I bought a couple bales of straw to use when I washed the birds. I will live with the sawdust and woodchips next year. The dust is killing me.

I had set up a couple "drying cages" for the wet birds to sit under a heat lamp and dry. (low temp heat lamp mainly to aid evaporation) I cleaned the one Dom Pullets normal cage and left the door open while I went to pick her up. During the 3 seconds I was gone a BA pullet jumped into her cage. She has been hanging around under my feet while I have been working in the barn. Yesterday. I picked her up and she did not seem to mind. Today the same thing. I think the way she settled into the cage she wants to go with to Hutch. I explained to her in gentle soothing tomes she was just to ugly and not pretty enough for this beauty contest, but if an ugly chicken contest ever comes up she can go..

Here is the ugly BA:

Sorry had to be B&W as she did not show up in color.

Holm called me to tell me he was not coming this weekend. They are real busy. I had to cut him off though as a hawk was coming towards me from the north. Luckily the roosters had already seen it and all the birds were hiding. Even the young turkeys.

About 3 weeks ago I bought a "Squirrelinator" live trap from Runnings. The box shows a picture of a guy with a trap full of 25 squirrels and says "25 squirrels in hours".

I finally got a squirrel! After 3 weeks. I have shot better than a dozen during the time it took to catch my first one. I have caught a whole manure spreader full of Poop from Judy over my live trap. She kept calling it a waste of money.

Here is proof the trap is not a waste of money:

BTW Judy still thinks it was a waste of money, even with the $10 rebate I got for buying it. I think she is just too sick to think logically about the great value I got!

Still having puter trouble . Had to buy a new power / charger thing . Got this back yesterday . Found out the malware is still in it . DS cleaned it whatever that means but did not wipe the hard drive . So I start using and get those warnings again . He never had the warnings come back while he had it . This seems to be a tough one to get rid of . I think I will have it fixed local .

Picked a bag of hen of the woods mushroom .
