Surviving Minnesota!

Ralph, what APA turkey breeds are you focusing on this year? MNnice...I also love Mr. T! With the hens Ralph is sending to Holm, I'd keep tabs on those breedings! If I remember, he's sending Ethel Jr. She's gorgeous! Could be some exciting hatches...

I am going to do Slates, Palms, maybe Bronze and of course Blacks.

I have a poor little white hen I need to find a home for, she just does not fit in, She was the only white that hatched. She is a sweetheart, but I have no place for her without a matching Tom.

Anyone know how to copy a image code from photobucket . Trying to post a picture on another site . I could not get anything but the whole album when I tried .

I think Ralph hatched some of his eggs last season. I can't remember his success rate. I do know that most folks have to place orders in the fall for the spring hatch. He sells out fast then does the breeders choice. You may have a better chance of getting fall fire eggs than poults. They are just gorgeous! I also love the sweetgrass. Oh I hope you can get them!!
I did terrible with his eggs. I think I got less than 50%, The only thing I really got that I wanted were the Royal Palms.

MnNice I can turn JJ loose on one of the hens and get you just about anything, He is capable of 22 varieties, as I recall. If I mated him the Rusty Slate going to Holm you would be pleasantly surprised, or let Holm hatch the eggs and see what come up. Also Mr T might give you a calico or fire fall with one of the hens too, as I recall.

I am only going to be breeding for APA varieties this year, so JJ will be celibate unless someone wants his babies.

The only hatching eggs available that I'm interested in are Sweetgrass eggs and maybe Blue Palms. I did chat with Kevin Porter yesterday and told him I'm more interested in non APA turkeys, but the Breeder's Choice option limits that....which I do completely understand. I just don't want to end up with 10 Narragansetts and 10 Bronzes. He said they try to do 3-4 of each variety max and to make note what I'm interested in. I get it, they're limited. Specific breed orders have to be filled, hens have to be laying eggs, etc. Plus, I'm ordering in December. It was really nice of him to chat with me for so long though.

I'd really love to get some Fall Fires, Sweetgrass, Pencilled Palms (red), or Tiger Bronze's. I'll get some Royals from Ralphie. Kevin said they have a few cross breed ideas that should be pretty cool as well.

Maybe I'll just see what JJ does and try my luck at Sweetgrass eggs.

Sweetgrass are great. As are Nari's. I was just outside letting mine out and looking the over. Ethel Jr as Memphis said is Beautiful.

So are the bronzes, I was going to do mixes again but I have decide to cut down numbers and go for the APA ones. I may not have a bronze Tom though which would mean I would get rid of the Bronze hens. I just have too many turkeys, I have 25 right now. Only 2 of which I have to keep, or Judy would not be happy with me, that's JJ and Sidekick.
