Surviving Minnesota!

My grandparents pretty much raised me so I can definitely relate.... My grandpa passed away from cancer when he was only 59 and I was 11. Mom went off and got married, had 3 more kids, and yet I still lived with grandma. After college I moved back home because grandma was getting older and needed help. She just passed 3 years ago... I still don't get along with my own mother most of the time. She takes care of my kid on nights and weekends though so I have to be nice (no other daycare options for those hours).

All this talk about grandparents is making me cry. Last night I went visit my grandma at the nursing home. It just wasn't right.....then she asked me to have my dad bring her will, her health care directive and her funeral arrangement paperwork. It hit me like a ton of bricks. This is the grandma that had a house at the end of our 1/4 mile driveway. And it was more than once a week grandma would get a call from mom...."enough talking and eating cookies I saw the bus drop the kids off over 45 minutes ago." Oops. Then in later years grandma broke her arm in a couple of places so I movd in and helped her. Totally unrelated but she made the best hard dumplings so I got her recipe last night

I am wondering what the vet is gonna have us do with the cow after he gets the head? Burn the body? The neighbor said we could eat it and I'm like are you crazy?!

Anyone want some salmon faverolle cockerels for free? They are all between 4-8 weeks old and still need a heat lamp. Out of 11 chicks so far I ended up with 8 definite males. They are out of show stock, but there's no way I need that many extra boys. If someone wants to grow them out for either showing or butchering they are FREE at this point... If I raise them up, I can sell or butcher myself.

I'd also have some culls from silkie baby pens already. There's a 6 week old black that is starting to develop some gold in hackles I'd let go for $10. Color leakage hints at cockerel, but no other signs of sex yet. I'd also have a 3 month old partridge pullet that just isn't tucking her wings as tight as I'd like. Cute lil fluff ball but I'm pretty fussy when it comes to keeping show stock. I'd let her go for $25.

Since Holm doesn't seem too serious about coming down for it, I'll also put out feelers for that big 600 egg Leahy redwood incubator that I have sitting here too. I just don't need that big of a unit anymore and have another 400 egg redwood that is in use.

If anyone has any swap/auction dates for northern MN, please message me and I'll add them to my list. I've been compiling them on my personal website and a couple Facebook pages that I admin on.

I had a good week for eggs!

I have 119 to be set in the next couple minutes they are washed and disinfected, just waiting for them to dry now.

I have

43 legbars
11 doms
4 polish
7 pc
2 SS
8 Cuckoo Maran
11- toad
14 yokohama.

4 turkey...

I have yet to gather eggs today and I sold 3 dozen this morning and have another 3 to sell. The week was way better than I thought.

I think I am done setting Toad eggs unless someone here wants some toads or their eggs. I have enough toads to keep them alive for another year. I hope.
