Surviving Minnesota!

Jerry, I don't have any experience with the high bush blueberries but do grow a couple variety of the Northern hardy low bush type. I don't have to do anything to acidify my soil, but if I needed to would use pine needles or bark mulch. The easiest is probably just to use Miracid, and you likely can find that without difficulty.

Good morning all.

A friend of mine had a blueberry called Reka she claimed was the best. She planted chives around all her blueberries, I am not sure why, but they did very well.

Morning . Predicted to be warm and windy here . Thought of going to the sale barn today . Hate to waste a warm day . Not getting much done this week . It has been a cloudy cool week . So no desire to do much . Rainy weekend ahead .

The sun is supposed to come back by this afternoon, way up north here.

Some guy had ordered 50 chicks in September and the hatchery sent 100. I am often in runnings and the women that work in the farm area and I laugh and chatter together. So I respectfully declined because of the time of year but . . . . . . they kept asking. Said they did not want just anyone to take them because some people will put them on a hook and use them for fish bait. Well, that did it for me. They did get rid of the extra 50 to people that stop in regularly. We did not know they were Gold Comets until later. What a great hatchery mistake.

Morning peeps!

Guess you can try again next time!   lvie, my Gold comet is 3, she lays every day, some days twice. last summer she laid 1 to 2 eggs a day (she was 2, so i'm not sure where they are getting the 30 week thing) all mine layed better last year then the year before. my EE started laying as well, 5 out of 6 days. my others have not started yet, but i'm sure they will soon.  I would say they are good layers still.  I'll let you know how it goes this summer. I try to keep pretty good records, only the mice got a hold of my egg log book and destroyed a few pages from last fall :(

I had more stuff marked, but lost it, arghhhhh. but it was good reading!

:th Twice a day????!!!!

Yeah, but because of that, they are usually soft shell, 2nd of the day is no shell, her body cannot produce enough calcium for 2 eggs a day. Right now, she is 3, I get 1 egg almost every day, 6 out of 7 days. I'm hoping she keeps it to one egg a day this year cause she is older.

Some days it just don't pay to get out of bed!!  Got my kid shipped off to school and tried to tackle a few chores around the house and farm before heading to work.  I moved a bunch of chicks from basement out to the garage brooders.  In the meantime I don't know what I twisted in my back, but I saw stars and have been hobbling like someone in a nursing home.  I go to work stinking like Aspercreme and swallowed a few Tylenol.  So I'm barely at work for less than 2 hours of a 10 hour shift and my zipper on my pants busts.  I snatched them together and high tailed it to our office to beg safety pins out of anyone that had a few.  All the guys thought it was hilarious that my biggest goal was to make it through the night without losing my pants.  I get home to find 5 of the chicks I just moved out to the garage were too stupid to go/stay under the heat lights and were laying dead.  I have time for 4 hours of sleep before I start all over again tomorrow. (or today...whatever it is).

This is terrible. I hope your back is better today, and that you have a much better day. I keep an old pair of pants and a shirt in my car trunk at all times. Just in case. I work so far from home, there is no running home and back. I spill, all the time!
Prayers for your back.

Good Morning.

Jerry, I have been busy doing chicken stuff. I had to change out the timer motor in one of my incubators. I needed to take it apart again...Seems when I am not wearing cheaters if is possible for me to not be able to see if I hit the blade with the electrical connector.

I have a bunch of chicks this morning. The legbars have not hatched yet and everyone else is done hatching....
I will keep them in the hatcher until tonight.

These guys were looking over the top tray, these are EE.
