Surviving Minnesota!

I am hoping I wake up Monday morning and most hatched over night! Otherwise I have a tendency to just sit and watch waiting for something to happen! Watching them push out of their shell is my favorite part!

Just be careful, I go bit by a toad last night. I am hoping I do not lose my finger. Its a good thing I had leather gloves on.

I promise to keep my fingers safe!

I don't remember who on here said their Grandmother or someone like that said, "Even a chicken has enough brains to come in out of the rain." But you have not met my chickens! I left the walk door closed yesterday because it was supposed to rain and not be nice but they did have access to the fenced in run. I can home after school it had been raining for probably 5 hours or close to it. I had several- over 10 out of my approx. 60 chickens just drenched because they did NOT have the brains to come in when it began to rain.

That old adage does not ring true in my flock.

I finally got here and posted. I've been so busy reading Under The twisted cross, since it's about my so many great uncle or grandpa.

Chick light in brooder went out last night they were all good though and were just snuggled but not piled this morning.

Some guy had ordered 50 chicks in September and the hatchery sent 100. I am often in runnings and the women that work in the farm area and I laugh and chatter together. So I respectfully declined because of the time of year but . . . . . . they kept asking. Said they did not want just anyone to take them because some people will put them on a hook and use them for fish bait. Well, that did it for me. They did get rid of the extra 50 to people that stop in regularly. We did not know they were Gold Comets until later. What a great hatchery mistake.

I have already befriended my local chicken lady at Runnings. One step closer to free chicks. Now..... how to break into the system and order extras

What a great story!!! Glad it worked out for you.

Hi Guys, Sorry I haven't been on for a long time. I will catch you guys up. I have ordered 50 chicks from Welp Hatchery in Bancroft, Iowa. 23 out of my 25 chicks that I ordered from them last year made it. We have also expanded from 3 to 10 beehives. We are going to pick up 10 packages of bees in Hackensack, MN in May. I am still in the process of talking my mom into getting ducks, but we are going to tractor supply tomorrow so I am hopeful.
