Surviving Minnesota!

Good Morning Chickeners . . . . Oh! And Holm - tell your parents if they don't already know. Just your concerns that this devil child may be the culprit and that your brother is a witness to the bragging about it. Only so others in the family are aware when he is around and keep an eye on him also. Who is this kid? I do not understand the meanness of it all. Makes me sad.

I actually got some work done , Jerry!

I cleaned pen, set up a summer waterer in that pen. I did some brush hogging, until I run the tire off the rim.

And I counted birds for Ivie. I have 152 adult chickens, 18 turkeys and 28 guinea.

I have no idea how many babies have I was not going to count them too. I am guessing I have between 75 and 125 of them.

Thank you Ralphie! I hope you were drinking a favorite beverage while taking that count. It would certainly make it much more enjoyable.

I had two more Doms hatch this morning. I have 7 Doms now. The 8th doesn't look to have even pipped. Not sure it is going to hatch. Sadly I think the same of 1 of the Toad eggs also and one Toad zipped half way and died in the shell. I am thinking I will have just 4 Toads. I will definitely be setting Toad eggs once they start laying. Hopefully I get one male and three females right?

Ralphie, the one not hatching is marked with a face so I don't think it is the odd one that could have been Turkey but I will wait and see what happens through out the day. I brought all but two out to the brooder this morning.

The one I was wondering about being a turkey is very pointy on the small end.

THIS IS FOR JERRY!! Who I know is laughing at me for not being able to tell a chicken egg from a turkey egg. I was letting the Toads walk around free some days. I am not doing that now because I have roosters running around free. A turkey could have gotten into the pen and the nest box for the toads. Toads being large need a huge nest box.

I have a turkey that lays a browner speck free egg that is not that different from the toads eggs.....So stop rolling around laughing at me, your DW is going to think you're nuts....

BTW I went on the offense with the tire right off the bat. She wanted me to brush hog the edge of the yard so she could plant some tiger lilies there. I told her I did not want to because of the sharp stump/stick sticking up. BUT being the ever obedient husband, I did it for her. When the tire rolled off, I told her it was her fault for having me out there in the first place. (it's not, but what does that matter)...

She apologized and said, "I'm sorry, I should have listened to you"...

I won that round.

Ok, If, I remember correct that one was not fertile. So turkey or not it did not grow anything. Too bad. Ashlyn was really hoping a Turkey would hatch out! Haha.

Ashlyn's 4th grade class really enjoyed the videos I sent of the two hatching in the middle of the night last night and Facetiming with the baby chicks. I even taught them how to sex Dominiques! I had two that were very clear on head spots and leg color. That was fun!

No I am off to check the incubator and see if the last two are ready to go to the brooder. Then clean the bator and get ready to set some barnyard mixes for a friend who doesn't care what kind of chicken it is as long as it lays an egg. I love doing those hatches as they all look different! So, in 3 or so weeks we get to do this all over again!

Back from buying feed . Light rain out there . A muddy mess . Ralphie here is a laugh on me . The truck is not stuck but it is so slippery up there where I keep my feed I can not steer a straight line . May have to put chains on to get back .
