Surviving Minnesota!

Bad week ahead!

90 DEGREES next 10 days...

We need to band together and help the elderly.......
Help by sending donations to me to send a deserving senior citizen to Alaska to coll off......
Guess ya burned too many tires up there trying to increase global warming thru the winter. We aren't even hitting the 90s yet
It is B. E. A. utiful.

I will definitely share quail pics!! Supposedly with this batch I could get some rare colors. :) I think the hens are getting close, as in NOT molting, NOT broody and also accepting the roo. :) Fingers crossed!!!
Gah!! Here is a pic that I TRIED to take through the top of the incubator. Not much luck. I will take pics when they are in the brooder.

After 5 months of failed hatches I am throwing in the towel....sort of.

I set my last eggs this morning. 26 SS eggs for a 4h kid in Benton County, (if you see him Mnchickmom let him know they are in the incubator). I will keep the SS in the breeding pen a tad longer in case these do not develop.

I am thinking my Inkbird 2000 digital thermostat is screwed up. I candled and watched the places the eggs were good and they were all in the middle toward the rear and lower shelves. Turkey eggs develop better than chicken eggs......

I broke my last calibrated thermometer and was just using the cheapies that are semi accurate. they have been reading a tad high. BUT still under 101.5...

I dropped the temp on the thermostat by a degree for the next hatch and will see what happens. If these develop I will have to get another one of those fancy calibrated "female in season" type thermometers.....

I sold 5 more older birds Sunday. with the 35 or so going to Redwood falls I might be to a reasonable number soon.

My wife thinks I over planted the garden again. What is wrong with one person having 80 tomato plants?

She is so unreasonable!

So here is a handy idea . I use 3 gallon sprayers a lot . The hand pump type . Age convinced to get creative . I bought tire valves the type with a threaded nut . Drilled a 7/8 hole and installed the valve . So now I just air it up to spray . I watch the stream of spray while airing as you could blow it up I think . Anyway once I have a strong spray that is enough . I use about half then give it more air . Got tired of all that pumping from half empty on .

Nice idea but I would go one step farther. Once you have the desired spray pattern, I would check the air pressure and in the future use the pressure as the guide to airing it up.
