Surviving Minnesota!

Jerry... I have a toad egg that is wrinkled. One of those that seem to cool funny and get ridges and is not round. Putting that egg in the incubator is a waste of time right?

I would not do it if I was not desperate for little toads. Does a chick in one of them even have a chance to hatch? Can I do an Eggsarin on the chick if it goes full term and cannot get out?

Our success rate in eggsarins is pretty low. We did have one this past weekend and she lived. The first one we have had this year. We (knocking on wood have not had the ones that start to hatch and stop, so far.

Ooh I see. My grandpas cow kick any calf that gets within a2 foot radious of her bag

Lol I could tell u giys a story a day for awhile...

I suppose most are like this. It's been a number of years since I've thought of calves robbing. So we must have had some Mommas that would allow such a thing. Must be few and far between though..right?

Ralphie I am sorry about all your snow. It is a PITA sometimes. Right now I'm doing the ice shuffle to my parking spot and back again. I do not like dealing with icy roads, parking lots. I don't bounce like I once did.

Sadie is a cat.

Not only just she leap and bound with the greatest of ease from towering heights and off of us...but she has taken upon herself to rid the run of rodents. Monday night she helped me put chickens to bed and came out of the run nipping and pawing at a vole in the snow. I did a quick step to put it out of its misery while she tormented it.

She spent some time with it that night and I figured it became evening snack.

Tuesday morning it's frozen tiny carcass laid on the snow path going down the coop. She picked up her vole-cicle and played with it again outside. Last night my son said from down stairs, "Mom. Sadie brought in her mouse. it's laying on the stairs" Oh Lord. She is something else. Despite her weird cat like tendencies I see her potential as a dog. She had some obnoxiousness though last week. Bought her new toys in Brainerd. One was $5. One was $10. They are now both completely shredded and destroyed in the garbage. About the only thing we can get her with out complete paper like shredding possibilities is hard Soup Beef Bones. Raw Hides are gone in 5 minutes. Even great big huge ones. devoured in one night's setting. those are $10 bones. So I need to get the soup bones for this Tyrant.

DS also reported an incident of chicken bowling while I did my Brainerd Run.

That's all I've got so far. Not much.

Whats chicken bowling?

When the dog runs through the flock for poops and giggles and makes them jump, flutter and run.

It's a big game and lots of fun for the dog apparently. I don't like it because #1 stresses my hens. #2 I think it's a precurssor to more serious dog/chicken relations. So I nip it in the bud if I see it.

That sounds like Pearl.

Reagan can have a toy for years and never destroy it. Reagan eats her food in a dainty fashion if left to herself.

Pearl wolves food down, destroys any toy in seconds. Squeakies are her favorite. She loves digging the squeaker out. She likes to chase and bark at any little animal she sees. She is jealous of everything. I was holding a chick the other day and she jumped into my lap to get held too.

She seems smart enough to not hurt the birds here. She has learned they are off limits. She sneaks things into the house all the time. You would not believe the smelly dead things we have found on the floor. We make her stop and open her mouth for us when we let her in the house. If she does not stop, look at us and "smile" we know she is bringing something in.

8 years old and still a puppy. She no longer chews chair legs and that stuff, but is still puppylike in her actions. We are really worried about Reagan, she is having terrible issues getting around. We think she has arthritis as some days she seems fine others we think she is on her last leg. The other night we actually talked about "we are not going to have her much longer".

Then all dog duties will fall on Pearl. We are just not sure she can take over the mantle.

Morning : ( Crabby morning. Haven't figured out why. Could be the overdraft at the bank! Dh needs to TELL me when he pays bills!
Shoveled the sidewalks - wanted to quit half way through - why do that? Do today what needs to be done NOW! Ugh. I think I will go
attack some eggs and toast, then a trip to Monticello to get ink for my DH printer (he did not tell me about that either). Hmmmm. Maybe
I just found the source of my crabbiness. : )

In the next 10 days only Saturday and Sunday get above freezing. The 10 day forecast looks so much like winter!  4 of the next 10 show snow.

It is hard to say how much we got the wind has really moved it into drifts. I am going to guess 3-4 inches. My wife's jeep only drug in a couple places going out the drive. Those were in drifted areas. Out the west window the grass is showing and it is nearly bare because of the wind. The deck has about 6 inches on it, but it swirls and falls off the roof onto it.

I suppose a better argument to be having with myself is: Do I use the Bobcat or ATV to move the snow....

I would say bobcat. My s10 gets tossed around by big drifts requiring me to get good ramming speed, so I can only assume the atv would be worse? I've never moves snow with either so who knows.

Oh yeah. My two-year old black lab has been up to all kinds of antics such as these and messin with the older dogs lately. It is really making me mad. But more mad right now because I am crabby. Stay away from me for the next hour. I think I will go meditate before going to Monticello or someone will have to pay for this crabbiness.

Have we talked about cow hooves for chew toys here? My lab is just like her, demolished bones and toys but hooves can actually last. Except they can smell a bit. I buy them in bulk every 6-8 months

I actually do the majority of my plowing with the ATV. I have chains on the rear and it seems to make a big difference on getting stuck and going sideways.

When I am on the ATV I can pretend I am enjoying life. On the bobcat it is all worklike. I have not figured out which is faster. The ATV travels faster but has a 5 ft blade the Bobcat has a 9 ft blade..

I think I need more coffee to mull this over..
