Ivie: I was so grumpy Saturday. I think it's the service you don't get in the stores anymore. The people stand around and stare at you. Make no effort to offer help or see if you are looking for something in particular.
It started off with a Menards run for a Water Softener. Which is a real unsexy way to spend $400. But I digress. Some 16 year old blonde girl running all of the Plumbing area apparently. (I mean what is menards thinking? and Where are the managers teaching these kids something?) I felt bad for her because I think she was a nice kid. But knew very little. And was a little too late with her help to load the softener onto the wiggly wheeled flat cart. (Big box --not too heavy. Just hard to grip)
A nicer store in Nisswa for Winter wear. Grown man...not budging to ask if I need help. Cool in response to questions.
I mean...what has happened to Minnesota Nice?! I think I like shopping on Tuesday nights better.
I have found when Menards service is bad, find the manager. It changes things.
I was getting a ton of lumber in Late Oct or early Nov. I needed one of the guys on a lift to carry the stuff. I did not feel like carrying it all on a little hand cart. I was in a bad mood too. The week before Judy an I loaded a trailer with 200-300 pieces of heavy lumber 10 and 12 inch stuff. We Were in one of the sheds loading it hoping one of the employees would come and offer to help.
2 kids each on there own lift, drove between the sheds were they park them. They looked at us loading the lumber and one said " Oh, I forgot I need to gas up" and laughed then drove away, the other one looked at us and said "me too". We loaded the whole thing ourselves. Not that we couldn't but a little help would have been nice.
Anyways on the day I complained. I had all this stuff to load. The security guard called for a lift on the radio, I heard him. I waited about 10 minutes no one came. I then walked to the loading dock with the lift guys. There were 4 of them in the area. They had topographical maps of some where north of Hwy 2 on the monitor and were talking deer hunting. A couple times they looked at me and went on studying the maps, pretending they never saw me.
I stood there about 10 more minutes. I wanted to see just how long they would play this game. It never ended. I went and found the manager. I was ticked off. I told him about all the lazy employees I had had to deal with lately. I told him how much money I spent in the last year at Menards and how "ticked" I was. He was real good about it all. He asked me to go back to my truck and they would be right there. I saw him go into the loading area. I think butt chewing occurred. You would not believe the great service I got. Of course, I could tell the guys were mad because I snitched them out. I really did not care.
I had not told this story before because the manager solved it so well. I have had minor issues since then but not many. I think my picture hangs in the loading area with a BOLO notice on it. I know the old saying one bad story from a store does more damage than ten good ones, which is why I have not said anything.
