Surviving Minnesota!

My shipping egg scenario was end of April early may. 4 Eggs were wrapped in paper towel- I thought bubble wrap may have worked better. But I'm no expert. In tact but I suspected a broken air sack on one that never recovered after setting an extra day. They were BLRW from Kentucky. Too far away to northern mn. Too many hands. I know the weather was ok in mn but I don't know about Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, or Iowa. I think it's good Jerry you gave a shippers perspective as well. What a pain for the breeders to sell that way as well. Shoot...

Anyways the broody kicked them all out in a matter of a week or two. I tucked them back under her in case she was wrong. She wasn't. No development...egg slurry soup. Ha. Live and learn and $20 up in the wind.

If you want to learn to never give money to strangers you meet online, feel free to sent me 20 bucks!

I went so overboard when I sent eggs. They went to Colorado.

I put them in the egg hole of carton, I had cut one out for each egg. Then I put them inside a cut carton cut in half (top from bottom) and taped together.

Then wrapped in bubble wrap, then put inside a cardboard box filled with packing peanuts..

Then I put that box inside a bigger box filled with peanuts.

I marked the box, this end up, fragile, Live eggs and took them to the post office.

The clerk looked at it, and looked at it.. and said I guess there would be a difference between live and dead eggs, and they shipped it. the person got it 2 days later. Which is amazing from my post office!

She did mention they were wrapped a little more than she had expected.

On shipped eggs . I did sell to the one who wanted 2 eggs to get 2 chicks . The shipping was more than the eggs . I sent 3 eggs and 2 hatched . I looked like a hero . I really sweat that one . Other times you look really bad . Sent 2 shipment through New York city . Nothing developed in either shipment . So yeah I looked bad . I refused to send more . Big city PO are rough . I avoid buying from West coast , Texas and New York . As a rule I do not buy less than 12 eggs . I prefer to sell 12 or more .

That makes sense.

I had a guy want to buy a dozen CLB eggs, but we could not come together on a price. He wanted them free, (well almost) and I was not willing to come down.

He wanted a dozen, I wanted 30 bucks plus postage, he said I was trying to rip him off. Oh well, such is life. I figured for me if 8 hatch and 4 was getting $32 for the dozen eggs. I have since raised my prices because I found I was selling the CLB's too cheap.

I still have waiting list I will never get through this year.

You can buy bubble wrap pouches on ebay . I use the #7 priority mail box 12 x 12 x 7 . You can put a regional rate A box inside that with crumpled paper around all sides and the bubble wrapped eggs inside . Works good most of the time . Sometimes it looks like a forklift crushed them IDK

I know!

As I told here when I sent my brother his Xmas present. A little banjo I had bought at the grand ol opry. It was maybe 9 inches long and made of glass and semi fragile. The clerk watched me wrap it, put cushioning in alongside it. I gave to him, it was marked fragile. He takes it, say thanks, bye. Then promptly threw it off the wall, bounced off a file (back board shot I guess) then fell into a tote.

I was in shock, but the damage was done. I would just wait and see if he got it...

It amazes me, he would do that instead of walk the 4 steps to the tote.

Did you hear from your brother if it was damaged or did the banjo get saved by your wrapping skills? What a d:ck that guy was for playing bb with your fragile package. The gall.

He got it, but only because I packaged a box within a box. He said the outside box was beat to poop...

And maybe you should reconsider your "naaaaaaaaaaaa"

I am making a major decision here. I think, beings it is valentines day I am going to take my wife out to eat! A real meal even. We do not gamble (well other than lottery tickets and a little poker and once in a while a slot machine or a friendly wager on the outcome of something).... But I think it is a night to go to Garrison for the all you can eat crabs at Grand Casino...

And if she says she does not want to go, it is even better, I can stay home but still look the hero for wanting to take her out...

Besides I don't feel like going to find her something at the last minute, I can pretend this was planned for weeks and she will never be the wiser!
