So today was the first day of feeding out my oat sprouts and it was a smashing hit!





I split the mat in 2 and put them in hog pans for the girls. I tried to break them up some to help make sure everyone got some. They went bonkers for them and when i went out for lock up there was not a single oat left!

I have confirmed by looking at pictures that my RIR has begun a molt. I thought molting did not begin until they were over a year but obviously I thought wrong. So now I am worried about her molting at this time of year. How in the world will she survive the cold weather coming? Do I bring her into the basement and confine her. I would have to bring in both RIR because, as someone on here told me - birds of a feather flock together. Concerns

But the comb is weird it is not the 7 points I look for on my CLBs.


I am think he can go live with Coffee, or make a nice meal for the two of us.

Gloria and Henrietta were getting it done today out on the range. Notice GLoria is missing her tail. She is in the final stage of her molt and looking better than she ever has. Her new pins are getting real long and have a pink hue. is that blood in them, I assume?

Big with Blue eggs gene and cute and nice,,,,LOL

All that in just one rooster? That is a minimum of 2 roosters.

My Big ones are brown egg layer stock on both sides.

NOW the two I just posted pictures of should have blue egg gene.

EJB said Ole had it I am sure the one with the identity crisis has a blue egg gene as every bird in that pen came from a blue egg and has never been outside.

Kloppers I am glad the greens are working, I will have to try that now.

I am still thinking on how to improve the system of making them though. Currently is is quite labor intensive for me to haul all of the bins to the sink several times a day to water and drain them. Now that the kittens are out, I will start puting my my grow stand that i use for starting seeds and improve it a bit. that way i can let the heat of the lamps warm the seeds and add a drainage system for the sprouts. I like what the final product is and that the girls like them. I will Definitely be continuing this experiment.
