Surviving Minnesota!

Yep her name is Lady.

Is she some kind of Jersey cross? I have no idea, so don't laugh at me!!

We are thinking of getting a milk cow, too. I think I would leave the calf on 12 hrs and separate 12 hours so I'd just have to milk once a day. It's hard to find hand-milking supplies, like the half-covered metal buckets, anymore. Do you guys just use 5-gallon pails, or what? What do you do with her extra milk?

Anyway, nice looking Lady!

Thats how we do it. The calf stays with her over night and gets seperated in the morning so we milk in the evenings. We use milking pails. They r steel buckets. Thanks!

Hey - have any of you wormed your chickens using Garlic Barrier?? http://www.garlicbarrier.com/sheep.html

I know someone has had good luck with Molly's herbal, but I already have this and it looks like I can use it on my sheep every couple months.

I have a couple 9-mo old chickens that are always giving runny stool but otherwise appear healthy. That is worms, right?

I do feed a lot of raw pumpkin in the fall, but I think I need to do something more.

I am also wondering how you'd administer. Maybe withhold feed & do not allow to range, then present them with some grain coated in the garlic stuff and some molasses? I know forcing with a syringe like you'd do with a horse or something can often end up with a "drowned" chicken.

Stay strong, everyone. It just can't stay cold for much longer. Just a couple more months... Looks like another nice day this weekend :)

BTW - Jerry I love the look of your EEs! I don't typically care for barring in my birds, but something like a Dixie Rainbow or what you've got is pretty nice!

One more thing - I am in the market for a couple roos for my breeding projects.

Looking for a Rhode Island Red rooster.

Looking for an Easter Egger rooster. (Jerry, i know you have nice chicks, just looking for a grown-up rooster!)

Even temperament is a plus. Will consider 9-mo-old cockerels and mature roos up to 2 years old.

I'm in East Central MN, but I have some out-of-town weekends this spring in Duluth and also somewhere by the Boundary Waters (I think), so I could meet outstate as well. PM me if you have something like that.

I have extra roosters . I should get a Mn entry permit again . Did not bother last year due to the Ai scare . I did ship chicks for awhile but the PO poor service and the People wanting them very early just broke me of that .

I was thinking you were in IA, my husband is going down to Cedar Rapids in a couple weeks. LOL Illinois is not the same thing! I think it's probably easier if I try to find a more local roo.
If I can't get fertile eggs of my own, I may order some from you in the summertime. I keep looking at your birds!

It's nice to see them out in the winter, too.
Is this the one who lays in the dog house?? LOL

Yes. She is not afraid of the snow...so I guess it's alright. Makes good Minnesota pictures right?

Yep she's coming up to the Free Range Nest Box that looks like a dog house.
