Surviving Minnesota!

My oegb bantam hens prolapse is gone! Should I try to keep her from laying for a while so it can heal completely? Also, how can I make my other hen go broody? She has been broody before, and we have 8 eggs ready for her to incubate.

EE and SS are hatching tonight I have 4 right now..

BA have pipped. Creamettes are just sitting there doing nothing. For some reason they are the slowest eggs to hatch...

And I have 76 empty slots in the second incubator. I might need a new one by Friday!

I decided to join this thread since the ND one is super slow! Even though I live closer to Montana..

Welcome I Love Layers. There is some chicken banter that goes on here. Lately, more geese and ducks and turkeys - LOL. And other stuff that we can get into.

I am glad this morning for this thread as I just could not sleep so got up to read. A person would think with these past two beautiful days and lottsa fresh air I would be soundly tuckered out.

I ran to the garage in the rain at 1:30 to get chick feed for those in the brooder. They are sooooo lucky. but they were hungry and chirping and now are quieting down.

This and earth worms. Yep, article on earth worms worth the read in Mother Earth and IF all that does not put me to sleep I may have to give in and clean the kitchen good. That would take me 15 minutes and physically be tiring. LOL.

Oh! and I can say GOOD MORNING everyone.

I suppose that many will sleep in due to the rain? If we get substantial rain we may lose most of the snow, which would be very nice.
For the Great Gray Wolf lovers, a friend of my wife posted on Facebook a photo she took on Easter Sunday. Mid day at 37th Ave W and 7th St. A nice big wolf walking down the street. Probably looking for some small dog to invite to lunch.

Ralphie, perhaps it is something in your water that is causing all this broodiness, as it seems that you are having more than your fair share of it.
The line about the turkey eliminating on you was quite humorous to me, but I was thinking that wearing the farmer bib coveralls does serve a purpose. Hope your hatch goes well and you are inundated with new chicks and lots of CLB pullets.

Leave eggs in her nest . Natures way is for a hen to lay a clutch of eggs and then go broody .

I clipped a deer on the way into town this morning. He was moving at a rocket pace up out of the woods and I barely saw him coming. Fortunately it seems there was no damage to my truck and the deer was nowhere to be seen so he must have run off. Not a great way to start my day but oh well. I have been fortunate that this is the first time I have clipped on in the 2 years I've been on the farm. They are very thick on our roads.

Pumpkins face is all better!

Wow a wolf at 37th w and 7th!! That IMHO means we have too many wolves if they are that brazen. It also worries me as that wolf has lost his fear of humans.

I am glad my misery of turkey poop in my undies and down my leg amused you. I said two or three bad words when it happened.

I am going to end hatching on some breeds. I am putting the BA's back in the layer coop tonight. I am not going to breed anymore EE either. Unless someone wants them. Then I will just grab colored eggs and see what comes out as Blackie, I am sure, will take his place as head rooster back from Sven. Chauncy is going to go away now. I will be contacting the woman that wanted him and see if she still does.

The only thing I will continue to breed will be PC's (If they stop being broody and lay eggs), the Speckled Sussex and the creamettes. I am even going to take a turkey hen to Coffee. I still need turkey eggs but losing one turkey hen will not bother me much.

It is funny, (the hatch) The EE, and Sussex have almost all finished hatching, the BA are over half done and the clb have not started yet. I do not have one PC egg in this hatch, none of them developed, and I only had a few to start with because of the last broody hen.
