Surviving Minnesota!

So,, I am still talking to myself and drinking coffee..

& Beings Sleepy mentioned my EE's. I still have hens protesting my removal of their favorite nest. Yesterday I picked 6 eggs out of the nest on the floor (they made) under where they think the nest box belongs.

I got 3 brown eggs in the morning and 3 blue in the afternoon. I assume these were laid by Ole's daughters (Ole is blue egg gene Roo I got from EJB, who is probably mourning having ever gave him up)

When I went into the coop and saw them I thought they deserved a picture, and it will give those of you wanting his egg gene an idea of the color...

Those eggs are absolutely beautiful! My Ameraucanas and EE all lay light blue. I have 5 "Ameraucana" chicks that I'm hoping to get some deeper shades from.

Hi all. :) I ended up getting 12 healthy chicks, but 10 eggs didn't hatch. They were definitely alive at lockdown, so I am sure it was my incubation skills (or lack of..) Temp and humidity staying great, until they started hatching, and it went super high. I am guessing they drowned? I did not open them. I was busy, and just couldn't bring myself to make the time. I did candle them on day 23, and there was no movement.
The good news, I do have 12 new chicks to enjoy! 4 of Ralpie's EE and 8 bantam cochins.

The lockdown humidity during my last hatch went close to 90. I dry hatched prior to lockdown. I concluded it was because of the amount of chicks hatching at once and it was all taking place in my little styro bator. When I saw the humidity climbing, I quickly took all the water out of the bator. Didn't help. I ended up losing 3 of the 24 I set. Not a bad hatch rate, but those 3 did have movement prior to lockdown. Have fun with your little ones!

So I ordered parts for my new Allis C that I bought on 4/10. Haven't seen anything or heard anything from the company since. Last week I emailed them only to get an 'Email undelivereable: Destination address does not exist' message back. I tried calling and their automated phone system has a 'check order status' option and each time it had me leave a message to which I have had no reply.

Today I got crafty and called and pressed the option for making a parts order. lo and behold they answered right away! I had the guy look up my order and he says 'uh lets see... I order for an exhaust manifold gasket and other parts... uh.. what the h*ll wanita?? can I get your phone number to call you back I need to look into something"

sounds like somebody has made a goof over there! my poor tractor has sat stranded in the middle of the yard waiting for this silly gasket for over 2 weeks in all of this rain! I had to rig up some cover for the engine to keep water out of the cylinders and carb. hopefully they sort this out and get me my parts!!

I was just informed I won the Article winning contest BYC put on......

I am now in negotiations with them over the prize. I am thinking I want the all expenses paid trip to Australia!

They are thinking I should get the $30 gift certificate to the BYC store.. We are getting closer.

I think the wood chips accent or make them look bluer, but they were beautiful lying there. I am hatching the blue ones so I can get more of them...

You could be onto something as yellow (woodchips) is directly opposite on the color wheel from the blue (eggs) and light refracting makes them complementary colors. You are such a photography arteest!!!

Oh man Kloppers. I'd be nervous about my cash order. At least you got a live person.

Hmmm. I won the coop contest here a couple years ago. I spent a good month and a half building the coop and doing the article. I got $20. Jipped.

You should have held out for the trip to Australia... I have the upper hand here, I can hear them running around, but I know they will cave in and give it to me any second.

Repeating oneself as one puts on a few more years isn't the worst thing that can happen. You just need to 'hang' out with older people who repeat themselves. Whole new conversations pop up from repetition. And repeating is better than not because the alternative of not repeating is, well, you can guess what that might be. LOL

I am sooo accumstomed to repeating because I have two 14 year olds and a DH with selective hearing. I'm a repeater.
