Surviving Minnesota!

@holm25 , yes lots of eggs! Cleo is laying almost every day, but she's not showing any signs of being broody. I tried placing golf balls in place of her eggs and she keeps kicking them out of her laying area. I might try some store bought eggs. Soon enough the weather will be warm (okay, warmer) and I'll just leave her eggs in there and see what happens. My barred hens started picking up the pace, too. I'm adding another breeder pen which will house a blue pied/barred drake and another blue barred hen. I'm stealing one of Caesars ladies, so I think I'll get him another hen. 4 is a good number for him. Busy guy.

Did you get any ducks, turkeys or chicks hatching yet? 4 of the eggs I got from you are still cooking and I added 7 more. Day 35 for the first 4 is the 28th. I have a few more waiting to be set, but I'm hoping to get them under one of the duck hens. I have a broody BCM hen, but I think she may be a nest box hopper. I hate saying this, but I need some good broody cochins or silkies *sigh*

@Bogtown Chick , Dixie is too cute with her little welsummer chick. Great pictures, too!

@I Love Layers , never ask how much you think ducks are worth with Ralphie around! He'll say you should pay them to take them :)

@NathanZee , congrats on the goslings! Cute little things! I still haven't forgot about my neighbors pigeons. Crappy weather = hiding pigeons.

Did you pick out which ones you want yet?

ALLLL babies are so cute! Except a real human baby I saw 50 years ago. I still feel sorry for that baby. But it didn't know and it was happy anyway - and loved. I bet when it grew up it was the best looking person!
Ooh, poor baby!

What would you guys charge for 2 year old ducks. There are 3 drakes and 6 ducks.
1 Rouen duck
2 black Swedish duck
1 pekin duck
2 Indian runner ducks

1 Indian Runner Drake
2 Pekin drakes
I would charge like 2 dollars each for the Indian runner hens, I would maybe be interested in a couple. But honestly I don't know, I was able to get 20 dollars for 2 runner drakes and 2 KC drakes. What color and how old are the Runner hens? And how old are the Swedish hens? Where do you live?

Thank you! Don't worry about it, thank you for remembering!

Trees are slow to reach full leaf this year . Walnuts , Black Locust and Sycamore are just getting a start . Black Locust are starting to bloom . I have a broody problem . I gave her 9 eggs a week ago because she did not quit when I moved her . She had 2 left today so I took them away . Gave her some incubator chicks . Had to check on her all day and put some back under her each time . She may be a dud as a mother .

Lets play a little game of name that Hatchery Mishap: I was sent this bird it is suppose to be a BA pullet. She (hopefully a she is 6 weeks old) but doesn't look anything like her other 3 sisters.)

Anyone's help and expertise is greatly appreciated. As you can tell I don't do well with patience or surprises.... She has a very nice temperment and will be around as long she continues to give me eggs. (About middle of the pecking order)

Not having read everyone else's post, but having seen Holm's incorrect guess, so I will correct him and most likely be guessing differently than others...

I say Easter Egger. I have some just like that with penciling and black.green legs,,,,,

Ralphie, sorry to read about the recent trials and tribulations of a Minnesota Banana Belt Chicken Wrangler, but on the bright side it will make for a good entry in the autobiography.

Jerry, it seems that the Walleye opener up here was pretty much a bust. My wife went to the cabin yesterday and all she and her fishing partners caught was a couple perch. It was very windy and cold out on the lake with difficulty finding any cooperating fish of any species. I am glad I had to go to pigeon race shipping.

Pigeon race today from Northfield. My birds lack training time so will likely be down the race results, but it is early in the race schedule with time to develop into a more competitive form.

How do pigeon races work? How do you train a pigeon? How often do pigeons disappear on these races? How do you know which pigeon wins?
