Surviving Minnesota!

I have been outside tilling the garden. I wanted to get it done before the heat hits in the next few days.

I had a BA hen followed or lead me the whole time. She was getting pretty darn close to the tiller. I was wondering what "tilled Chicken" would taste like.

I have a gob of Guinea and Turkey babies again. I am not sure what I am going to do with all of them. I will try to sell some birds at POL but I am guessing most will go to the Asian meat market in St Paul.

I sent the guy a text on the mower. He had the nerve to sell it to someone else.

Coffee is coming for her "house turkeys" today. I think she has 8 of them.

Nothing else new here.

Would you like a beautiful buff orpington cockerereal to liven things up? He has been "awake" at 3:30 the last couple of days and can't seem to sleep until past 10:30.

Thanks for the offer! I will trade you 3 for your 1, they haven't found their voices yet so you would get the better deal.

We r getting closer to showtime! Just thought I would show you all how the Bucks are shaping up! I'm really liking them and may have to get more one day

! Or just have my broodies hatch a bunch!

Just an FYI that is my little sister with "her" baby.

They're looking good! Good luck at the shows!

Good morning to everyone. So quiet here it's eerie.

I also have a rooster you can have =)

Rained again this morning . Hot and steamy now . Hot and steamy week ahead . So I have been browsing the net . All you berry foragers I need info . I have discovered that the Canadian blackberry is thornless or only a few prickles . Anyone encounter this one while picking wild berries ? Interested in it for breeding hardy berries that are large and thornless . I think the wild ones I have seen up there are the Wisconsin blackberry ( rubus Wisconsenis ) . Probably the same species we have in Illinois . There are several species listed in most states . Good ID info is hard to find .

12 out of 13 eggs hatched...both hens are doing a great job. One chick is sluggish but otherwise ok. I love watching the hens take care of those chicks! The brain damaged pullet is only tolerated by the hen, so she isn't adopted. That pullet doesn't seem to understand foraging...she pecks random things and then gives up and eats out of the food dish. If we hold food in our hand she thrusts her beak into our hand but missed the food sometimes. I tried to feed her a mosquito but she wasn't interested. We decided as long as she is putting on weight and seems happy she stays.

Yesterday I found a baby squirrel that had fallen out of the nest, if it had been seconds longer my cats would have had it. Today I took it to Wild and free in Garrison. They take in wild animals care for them and set them free. I don't care if my cats hunt adult squirrels and they rarely catch one but the baby with eyes still closed deserves a better chance.
