Now that I spend more time than normal watching TV, it's just horrible. I spend my time watching Netflix or old westerns on the oddball channels (I don't have cable). What's worse is how expensive it is to make and run these ads. It's not coming out of the pockets of those running that's for sure. Ridiculous.
@jerryse , it's all protocol sorry to say. Doesn't help that they didn't tell you to fast or tell you about the blood work. Wasting your time. Good luck with the procedure.
@lvie , I'm picking up some White Leghorn chicks next week, so I'm just curious. I've heard the same about them. They were always around when I was a kid and I remember picking them up and playing with them. I'm hoping overly socialization them as chicks will keep them a little less crazy. We'll see.
Oh no! I hope it is getting better!
Hope everyone's had a better Halloween then I did![]()
So first some kid knocked my phone out of my hand and shattered my screen! Then it was my last VB practice of the year, even though I tried so hard this year I didn't get on varsity as a freshman.
So I get home and my dad said my horse, pictured above got cut by some wire and we were going to go disinfect it. No big deal is what I thought.![]()
So I went into the milking area to get some vetericyn, and I hear a high pitched squeal from a rabbit. Look over and one of the barn cats is holding a baby bunny.** I grabbed the cat and kicked I mean literally kicked it out of the barn.
Then I grabbed the bunny, and it's missing a leg.
So we put it in a cage in the chicken coop.
We then go to check my horse, her leg is swollen about 3x average size, she has a deep cut on her shoulder and by where her neck ties into her body. And also under her hock. Her competitive career is done now.
The cats almost got another bunny after this too. **we let our rabbits run around the yard and they get food and water underneath my chicken coop![]()
Sorry for your losses that is terrible!Sorry to hear about your horse @I Love Layers . I hope for a speedy recovery.
I lost two Cochins yesterday early. I think it was a hawk. I don't think it realized how big they are. One practically lost it's entire wing and I had to be put down. A land predator never would have left it since she was already disabled. The other had some deep puncture wounds in her back. She went into heavy shock and I lost her. Too bad because I think I could have healed her up. I have one blue girl left wandering around trying to figure out where her buddies are. Always a bummer to lose any of my birds. However, It make me happy to see them running around free ranging eating bugs and exploring their little world.
Quote: I agree, if you are sticking with the lamp, put a hardware clothe cage over it in case the bulb falls, or also, in case a chicken jumps up, hits the bulb, then their feathers start on fire, this is how many of the fires start. I have a bulb out in the run in the winter on extremely cold days, but in the henhouse i've only got a flat panel heater like BTC. Here is a photo of my lamp in the run.
A friend of mine, her kid had a cyst there, kinda a big deal, very deep, then she had to pack the big wound he had after, for over a month... Hope yours isn't the sameSo here is a story for you . Went to have the preop testing done . While there I told the staff I had a couple of messages to call them . Might as well see what they wanted . I had been hunting or working during office hours. So a nurse came in and wanted to know what the call was about . I said well I had blood work done . Still wanted know what they wanted . I said ugh you called me I did not call you . You need to tell me what it is about . I saw the vampire nurse trying to hide a grin . Turns out they wanted to redo the blood work because I did not fast . I said that is on the nurse . She told me it was a pee test . I expected to pee in a cup . No mention of fasting or blood drawing . So I was surprised by the blood draw .Anyway I went from midnight to 11 AM with no drink or coffee . It was getting to the end of my patience . I was close to loosing my charm . Oh and all this preop and surgery stuff to take a pimple (cyst) off my butt crack . IDK what the fuss is .![]()

I'd like to see photos of the Appletiniis when you get a chanceI think I can tell the pullets and the cockerels apart on the Appletiniis now. I owe Cackle an apology. I have 6 hens and 2 roosters. I was sure it was the other way around. So now I have 11 pullets and 21 boys with my order from them. Better than it was at 26 boys.![]()
Have a great night everyone!
I think my 2 leghorns are probably CA hybrid too. they were 'leghorns' that came from a little farm store bin down in iowa. they are very pleasant mannered.I have heard that leghorns are a mean bird. The CA is small and quite cooperative and lay every day. but not fluffy like the BO or BA etc. Good little bird. I think I will always have one or two going forward.
CA??? Sorry brain is just not there to guess at it.
I think everyone should get White legbars for a friendly mild good layer of blue eggs. I just happen to know a place you can get this extremely rare bird... Cheaper than from Meyers Hatchery too...
I had to get feed today. I have gotten a couple times in the van waiting for a good day to load up. I got a 1 1/2 tons today. Hopefully that will hold me for a while. I think I will be done with Game bird grower now. However in January I have to go to Game bird breeder which is more money..sigh.....
I tried an experiment today on my trip to Monticello. I place 4 eggs 2 brown, one green and one blue on the bumper of the truck. Then took off for Monticello. I discovered color does not make a difference on the eggs holding ability. I should have never told the WWD I did this. She is being merciless. I am even telling her it is not a good sign for her. It means I might have dementia and she will be changing my diapers before she knows it.. That has not slowed her yakking about the eggs on the bumper a whole lot....
I am really starting to like my birds in cages. They are getting so friendly. Well, most of them. I might just become citified or sissified with the way I talk to them in the cages.

I have the 2 Dom pullets I showed in Hutch inside, they have been laying for a month now, The other 5 pullets have not laid and egg yet. It is kind of weird as they are all the same age, feed the same, the only difference is I give the indoor ones a huge hug and kiss every night like EJB taught me too. I think they respond to the love.
