Surviving Minnesota!

Morning . Ralphie make sure you have blood stop powder before you trim beaks or have a way to cauterize if needed . These are not always needed but you need them ready if needed .

Thanks, I have actually been designing a fool-proof roll-away cage. The egg eaters are headed to solitary in roll-away cages. Hopefully they will forget the habit.

I do not want to release them after breeding season to free range even. I do not want them teaching others to eat eggs. I am pretty sure they learned this in New Ulm, I have had problems with it since then...So it must be @destiny_56085 's fault. She has her starling and thought I needed my own problem

EJB you were right on hatching pullet eggs. I have a cuckoo Maran from the pullet eggs and the other one is pipped and unzipping!

My count when I last looked was (hoping I remember):

3 toads
6 Doms
3 yokohamas
4 legbars
1 CUckoo Maran

This is a through the window photo so it is not great.

Hello chickeners . . . . Went out to turn on lights in the coop and yes, I know that I could attach an automatic but I like to see them in the morning - anyway - somehow in you spelling out the egg issues RALPHE (so that must mean this is YOUR Fault)

there were birds that had just gotten off the roast eating a cellophane egg and then another egg was on the floor in another location and they were devoring that one. I hope its because they were where they should not be and that this does not happen in the nesting box.

My birds are getting 20% protein because of the colder weather and some of them lay every single day and there are others molting etc. etc. etc. I add egg maker to the mix and some boss.

It must be the weather. I am feeding 22% game bird breeder, free will oyster shells and treats. I am sorry I told you of my problems. I am betting it is one of the birds you got from me that started it.....AND

if it is, and my Problem started with Destiny, I am thinking you can blame her and her starling too.

I can handle it. ;) This morning I have to go out and scrape starling crap off every surface again before the state vet gets here. Turns out they had trained my mom wrong on the AI swabbing. She learned to do the tracheal swabs only for our NPIP testing. Well my big ole muscovies need cloacal swabbing done. So we get to wrestle those big buggers down and stick a glorified q-tip up their butts. You next?

LOL Destiny.
Good luck today.

Good morning every one. I need to run down to the coop before work and check on eggs. Retrieve them before some birdbrain gets a bright idea to eat them.

I'm sick of Facebook and my other media intake. Lots of hate, unrest and disrespect lately. So perhaps you will see me more on here. I feel like I don't have much to contribute though. Sort of waitinng for green grass and just melting away this winter completely at this point.

Roads slick taking kids to the bus. It was misting out. Yuck.

I'm not getting much for eggs either right now. I think its the wonky temp swings that have birds wondering what's next. My polish haven't even started at all yet. Get a random egg out of the faverolles every now and then. I'm lucky to pull 1-2 eggs out of 60+ silkies on a daily basis. Par for the course with that breed it feels like.

Last week I was super productive! I hauled in all the sheets of plywood from the back shed and got my garage brooders back together. Moved some of the oldest chicks out of my basement and my poor truck is back outside. Just had 5 more chicks out of the shell this morning and maybe a handful more to pip yet.

Me too! I don't have much to contribute. Don't get me wrong - I like my life. I have entered the credit card receipts on QuickBooks last week, cleaned, laundried, feed my birds and dogs and walked the dogs too! I cute out a quilt yesterday during the games and got that ready for sewing with the 'girls' this Friday and Saturday. Grandson's 14 birthday party Saturday night. DH up in Aitkin for the next three weekends. Ummmmmmm . . . . . see? who wants to talk about all that? Carhardts BC - we could talk about them!
