Surviving Minnesota!

Few eggs for me too... My nicer blue pullet should start laying soon, I'm really excited! Hopefully these temps slowly rise... I'd prefer no floods this year here, I'd like to be able to get to school and track practice.

I can handle it. ;) This morning I have to go out and scrape starling crap off every surface again before the state vet gets here. Turns out they had trained my mom wrong on the AI swabbing. She learned to do the tracheal swabs only for our NPIP testing. Well my big ole muscovies need cloacal swabbing done. So we get to wrestle those big buggers down and stick a glorified q-tip up their butts. You next?

Destiny - you must have broad LOL. I think you will be our go to person for blaming right now. Whenever my sister starts to mention family negative traits I always say its Mom's fault. We are her daughters and she taught us. It lightens my sister up. All a person can do is laugh. So from here on out I am going to say "Do you know what Destiny did?; or what Destiny started?" etc.

I bought two bags of Klean Koop on Saturday. Previous threads spoke of them. I haven't put the second bag down yet and the cleaning on Sunday morning plus the first bag of Klean Koop has helped remarkably.

I was out with friends on Friday night for dinner - there were six of us - I mentioned something pertainate to the conversation about a comment on this 'chicken thread' and one of the uppity-ups said "thread? whats a thread? I have never heard of a thread." I thought that was remarkable as he is still at a job and I thought everyone would know what a thread was. Of course, since I sew I understand the concept of the thread . . . Anyone think that this is a little unusual? I just thought . . .

I do.... I'm 6'0 tall and not tiny. After many years of hard work on the farm, I could probably successfully arm wrestle most of the guys I work with too. I always joke around at work that I'm going to take home all the hellraisers that they want to kick out or send to detox. Throwing bales or cleaning pens sounds like so much fun......

Me too! I don't have much to contribute. Don't get me wrong - I like my life. I have entered the credit card receipts on QuickBooks last week, cleaned, laundried, feed my birds and dogs and walked the dogs too! I cute out a quilt yesterday during the games and got that ready for sewing with the 'girls' this Friday and Saturday. Grandson's 14 birthday party Saturday night. DH up in Aitkin for the next three weekends. Ummmmmmm . . . . . see? who wants to talk about all that? Carhardts BC - we could talk about them!
How are you liking your Jacket Ivie?

I really like mine. During horse chores it has been the best. Horses are dirty. Try to stay clean out there...but you just cant do it. Especially if you want to cuddle a horse. But anyways dust, dirt Poop. It doesn't matter when wearing the carhartt. That's for sure.

I have fun too.... Chicken shows/swaps are a prime place to find me in rare form. When paint silkies first started showing up I waited til judging was done at a show and 'painted' one of my white silkies purple and orange with some of those women's hair dye wands (usually from Halloween). We even had the show secretary print me up a new cage coop card for the AOV paint. Man did that get more than a few weird looks.... I can recall another time that I was supposed to be helping finish up the awards/trophies at a show on a Saturday night and more than a few beers were involved. Doors to the show hall were locked so I had to improvise my horse trailer as a porta-potty. Well the wind slammed the door shut and locked me in there. Nothing like yelling at top of your lungs at like 10pm for fellow chicken people to maybe come let me out.....

Okay, this has been on my mind. This past week the results of the hardness of the well that we just had dug in Aitkin came in (yes, yes, yes - along with the bill to dig it) and my tells me that it is a harness of 1. So I ask - on what scale? Do you men understand that question? Had he said on a scale of 0 to 10 - 0 being the softness and 10 the hardest - ours was a one. I UNDERSTAND that! However, nooooo . . . . he has to go through this whole explanation that I am asking more questions about this whole scale thing and not getting it. Just K I S.

I had to write that. I knew you would be interested.

Okay - this is about chickens. I have been checking their nesting boxes frequently today. I found one egg broken open in the nesting box and promptly scooped it out. There were at least five hens standing around that were ready to dive into the feast. I think they are bored with this warm weather and not having to concentrate on not freezing.

Ugh. Not having a good hatch on the Buckeyes over here yet. None of the eggs are pipping or moving while all but one of my mutt eggs are hatching. I am scared I am gonna have to find some chicks this year for showing and just hatch Buckeyes to build up my stock.

On a better note the chicks that are hatching are really cute black chicks with pea combs. Hopefully some replacement layers... Well off to turn on the heat lamp and finish setting up the brooder.
