EJB
He is a daredevil of a rooster. He has taken on every rooster in the barn. I know most people get rid of the mature roosters. I do not always. My Pole barn roosters are Ed, Bert, my show CLB rooster from last year and the pollack. I also have a lame Cuckoo Maran in the barn. For the biggest part these roosters are like me and my friends. Too old to chase women, or drink much anymore, but young enough to sit around and dream about the "good old days".
They tend to stay close to the barn, occasionally Ed will wander towards the EE flock in hopes of finding a girl, before Swen sees him and runs hm off. Even Bert will wander a little ways and chase a girl that gets close, but it has to be a short chase as Bert is not prone to running the 100yd dash anymore.
The Pollack has tried to become the head of the barn roosters in one day. It is not going well for him. All these old decrepit roosters are like Toby Keiths song, "I may not be as good as I once was, but I am as good once as I was."
They have all cleaned his clock once that I could see. He was wandering around inside the barn yesterday afraid to go outside. Even the OC (orange cat) managed to scare him once. t was quite warm here yesterday and I was wearing cutoffs as I did my chores and work in the barn. The Pollack was sitting under a cage full of my potential show birds for this year and as I walked by I swear he thought about jumping my bare legs. I warned him, "it would be your last move". He sat quietly as I passed.
So he is adjusting to life as a freebird. I am just not sure he will adjust fast enough. As long as he does not cause me problems I will feed his stupid ugly face. I might need him if the other rooster kicks off. However, the extend to which I might need him lessens everyday one of his sons grow.
That is where he is now, of course, there is always a chance he will relocate to Hermantown in the next month or so.....
