Surviving Minnesota!

I should have paid closer attention to who was going to Fosston. I did not realize that Mom of Many lived that far up in the tullies. In my younger days I worked for a CPA firm which performed the annual audit of the bank in Bagley. They had customers from all the little towns in the hinterlands.

Starting out again this morning with fog, but supposed to clear up later?
BC we did not read anything about your weekend adventure. I hope all went well.

Ralphie, how is your favorite rooster doing with his new found freedom ?

He is a daredevil of a rooster. He has taken on every rooster in the barn. I know most people get rid of the mature roosters. I do not always. My Pole barn roosters are Ed, Bert, my show CLB rooster from last year and the pollack. I also have a lame Cuckoo Maran in the barn. For the biggest part these roosters are like me and my friends. Too old to chase women, or drink much anymore, but young enough to sit around and dream about the "good old days".

They tend to stay close to the barn, occasionally Ed will wander towards the EE flock in hopes of finding a girl, before Swen sees him and runs hm off. Even Bert will wander a little ways and chase a girl that gets close, but it has to be a short chase as Bert is not prone to running the 100yd dash anymore.

The Pollack has tried to become the head of the barn roosters in one day. It is not going well for him. All these old decrepit roosters are like Toby Keiths song, "I may not be as good as I once was, but I am as good once as I was."

They have all cleaned his clock once that I could see. He was wandering around inside the barn yesterday afraid to go outside. Even the OC (orange cat) managed to scare him once. t was quite warm here yesterday and I was wearing cutoffs as I did my chores and work in the barn. The Pollack was sitting under a cage full of my potential show birds for this year and as I walked by I swear he thought about jumping my bare legs. I warned him, "it would be your last move". He sat quietly as I passed.

So he is adjusting to life as a freebird. I am just not sure he will adjust fast enough. As long as he does not cause me problems I will feed his stupid ugly face. I might need him if the other rooster kicks off. However, the extend to which I might need him lessens everyday one of his sons grow.

That is where he is now, of course, there is always a chance he will relocate to Hermantown in the next month or so.....

Morning . Not much to read . Crickets singing on here . Well I got my Jung order yesterday 3 grapevines and a blackberry . Should be able to plant them before the next round of rain starts tonight . 1 1/2 to 2 + predicted . So the WW had her hip replaced last Friday . DW has spent a lot of time with her . Yes I was unsupervised . So gloomy I behaved myself . So just me and Sammy my dog for those days . He is a good listener but never says anything . It is bad enough that I will go with DW to breakfast with her siblings . That is right in laws for chit chat .

Good Morning Chickeners . . . . Its suppose to become partly sunny in the banana belt today. I still don't believe the weather peoples. Lots to do inside, lots to do outside. I must be a 'Ralphie'. I work and work and then I turn around and there is more work following me around. Its a way that I have become.

MomofMany - I know where Fosston is. My nephew lived in Felton once upon a time and his daughter graduated from Fosston. So I actually was in Fosston. Cute little town. Nice toads and cute lil girl. Are all your little ones that cute?

MNnice - that showed true integrity that he stopped to let you know about his dog being a chicken killer. Is he going to restrain her now when she is in the neighborhood? THEN he might be able to pave over your black top with his cement.

I am betting on you Holm. No. 6 is the strongest possibility. And just think - IF you were to become a Vet there is no place you cannot go that you would not have a career.

Track meet is postponed. And there's nothing in Bismarck or Dickinson not even a class A meet. Ugh.. I was looking to quality and get it done with I guess not

Good Evening Chickeners . . . . Oh what a perfect day. I have been soooooo busy - kind of like you chickeners! Since I have decided that free ranging my flocks is not the best idea for me (chix doo all over the walk areas) I have been busy building additional run space. I put together a cute little coop that I must finish tomorrow and set it in its place - It will be a perfect brooder but for now Ruby and Regina get it til they have their feathers and Regina gives me some eggs. Reggie is catching on that the fenced in coop is good and is becoming alittle more daring when Copper is around. He still hides of course but not so ridiculously.

DH got the water running up in Aitkin. He has electricity and water on the lot now.

Out at the campfire with NDN last night. They have a dog that runs IF she is not held til they get to the chain to confine her. Well, she won't be running anymore. The additional emotional impact is that they have a 10 year old boy staying with them who is on suicidal watch. All knives have been removed and someone is with him 24 hours. He is a sweet heart and also autistic but where in the world do they come up with these ideas!? He let the dog out, a dog that he loves. Good therapy with that dog. Well of course he was screaming. But they told him that the dog often runs off and is gone sometimes up to a couple weeks and that she will come back. I wonder how they will deal with it when he starts looking for the dogs return. He is 10 and in second grade. Maybe it won't occur to him that the dog hasn't returned.

Good Morning Chickeners . . . . a little grey outside and I wonder if that is the way it is to be today. I say that any weather is okay with me however, I miss that sunshine this morning.

Just to clarify - the dog that bought the farm next door was about three years old. The little boy that they have staying with them is 10 years old. And here is a little additional note of interest - he was married once many years ago. He and she have a 17 year old son together. After parting she married two different men and has had three children with them. This 10 year old boy is hers. Her children spend many nights at his house because she is messed up and he is not and he is that kind. So this little boy that is suicidal is brother to his 17 year old son. Her kids (honestly) always cry when when its time to leave. They don't want to leave his house to go back to Mom's house. You talk about a person (him) that is loving and kind. That is a true Christian attitude to me whether a person is religious or not.

Okay - down form the pedestal. Its remarkable to me. Oh! I am the only one on here plus a guest right now anyway. I could just keep going on and on and on.

Oh man this is so sad. This seems to happen more and more these days. A great guy I work with, his Ex took off, left the kids with him. Even one that was not his. He raised him like his own. There are alot of good guys out there, but they tend to stick to themselves after getting hurt. No time for more drama from "ladies" and I use he word loosely. It is sad.

We survived the new steel adventure. And I got through the whole day without blood pressure pills. Below is a picture of said son on the lull. He is dropping the vise grips to us on the ground.
Thankfully, my daughter was ogling over her 2 infant cousins.
Barn was only 98 feet in length so both sides were done when we left at 8 last night.just the little feed storage room and milk house roof left for today.

Would love to see the end result!

Looking for advice on combining my babies with their older siblings. Last Saturday it was warm and sunny so I brought the babies outside in a little pen. I did spy the big girls and Russell Crow (my rooster)checking them out through the fence. I was thinking maybe in a few more weeks on warm days I'll put them outside and let them be in one run but blocking the connecting door to the other run. This is my coop/run. I now have a second dog run attached and a tin roof. I could make a second temporary coop and put in the other run. Ideas? Suggestions?

Looking at GFFs page for American Bresse. They get 98 euros at a restaurant which equates to $104.5 dollars here! I need to get some more chicks of these so I can start raising these and butchering!!

Good luck!

I am betting ND is not a lot of different than around here. People do not want to pay more than 10 bucks for a bird, regardless of size or how it is raised.
