Surviving Minnesota!

Track meet went pretty good.

A junior guy almost SQ in 2 events, and this is his first ever meet. He placed 1 in 400, 2 in 800, and top 8 in the 100.
One other guy placed top 8 in Long Jump, 2nd in 400, and 4 in 200.
Another guy, also his first ever meet, made it into finals in Long jump but could not compete due to a possible tailbone sprain. So he had to stay with his 18 foot jump.
I changed my events around and was planning on High Jump, 400, 300hurdles and 200.
I did fairly well, the 300 hurdles was a fail I was not mentally prepared and took 3rd

.
100 I PRed with a 13.46, roughly half a second off qualifying, I think I took top 8 in this possibly.
High Jump was the highlight of the day! I got 1st place with a jump of 4'9"! And I've only ever gone over fully 2 times in practice! I was trying to qualify which I need 5'1" for and as I was clearing 4'3" by a foot or more that should be easy. But i did not qualify today as I sprained my left ankle as I was going for the 4'11" jump on the first try, but I kept going trying to see if I could make it. I knew doing high jump was a risk with my Hind foot valgus but its definently worth it now!
Because I sprained my ankle I couldn't do the 200.
Overall our whole team did great and it was an awesome first meet!!

Hello all.

I am alive.

I have found that Attila the hun was female, I have found Judy is not only a WWD, she is a prison wardenette. (is that that proper name for a female warden?) She has eyes in the back of her head and both sides, like a otoclops (8 eye cyclops). Most of you know she is an hospice nurse, I now now why she does hospice. She enjoys killing her patients! She tried to kill me.

I will go back to the beginning. Last Saturday I told you about the incident with the Pollack's cage. I lifted it (with my bobcat) and the leg (sawhorse) fell off on one corner.

For those of you that do not know the Pollack cage is 4ftx8ft made of 1/2 OSB on the bottom, 4 feet tall with a 2x3 frame covered in 1/2 hardware cloth and sits on a table made of 3 ft long 2x4s. It is substantially more than anyone cane lift or move alone. Being a man with a bobcat allows me to move these things alone.

Until Murphys law hits me. It seems someone forgot to attach the sawhorse firmly to the table top in one corner with screws. I am pretty sure this person was being bothered or nagged by his spouse at the time. Said spouse will deny this.

Anyways when I lifted off falls the one leg. I know have a three legged heavy load in the air and no way to set it down. I had taken the pollacks out of the cage incase of something going wrong. I would hate to have 2-3 dead Pollacks to explain to the authorities. ( in this case it would be above named spouse). I moved the cage outside and into the other door of my pole barn. I have my tools there so I could fix it fast.

My bobcat s not new, the WWD forbids me from buying a new one so I am stuck with a 25 year old one with weakening hydraulics on it. If I had, had a new bobcat I could have lifted the cage high and left it in the air without fear of the cage dropping. Even after all this I am still not allowed to spend her 403 on a new bobcat. She is heartless.

I set the brake on the bobcat, because I never do dumb stupid things that could get me hurt or try to limit them. I exited the bobcat and got out from under the forks and cage as fast as possible. This all went according to plan.

I then grabbed my De Walt 20 volt max screw driver, I am glad i bought these without her knowing under the JerryS method. They are so good and strong and never fail. I learned to start using torq screw heads which also saved me here as they do not strip. As you can see I took all the precautions to make this a safe operation.

I quickly removed the 3 remaining sawhorse, as I had decided before this straight legs made more sense than saw horse. I took the sawhorse apart with me nifty DeWalt screw gun and grabbed 4 2x4s from the saw horse legs to use as normal legs. I had used Menards top of the line 2 for $1.99 rapid sawhorse fasteners that you just shove the 2x4s in. While they are fast, some argue they are mainly junk and not safe. I am leaning that way myself now.

I then fastened the new legs in each corner, I had a strong secure base to set the Pollack cage down again. However, this procedure had taken longer than expected. Also I had miss estimated the speed at which my bobcat engine had to run to compensate for the leakage in the pump seals. This caused the front ends of the forks to "droop". This drooping was causing the Pollack cage to slip slowly off the fork. Again you can see nothing here is my fault.

I saw this and took immediate corrective action. I jumped into the bobcat, as fast as I could to spend as little time as I could under the load that could fall on me. This seemed prudent, in retrospect I am thinking I could have taken a little more time and moved a little slower.

When I jumped into the bobcat, I hit my head on the bottom of the steel cage/rollbar that is suppose to be a safety device. It appears to be more of a hazard to me though. I hit it quite forcefully. I saw stars, my knees buckled and I thought i was going to pass out. I being trained to handle dangerous and potentially lethal situations relied on my training and superior male mind to survive this.

I forced my self to not lose consciousness. I knew if I did I might never regain it. I kind of directed my fall in the seat of the bobcat, safely inside the cage knowing my butt and back had to hit the seat and my arms, feet and legs could not hit a control on the way down. This worked perfectly. I then sat there seeing stars for a good 10 minutes and wondering if I hurt myself.

I did rev up the engine and keep the Pollack cage from dropping. I then moved the cage and the Pollacks out to there summer digs. They like it there I might add, even if Judy does not like them there. Who wouldn't want to look out the kitchen window and see Pollacks frolicking in their cage and soon to be built run.....Judy is the correct answer to that question..but I digress.

I stopped work for the day with the moving of the Pollacks. My head hurt, I was seeing things a little fuzzy, a little double vision and the ringing in my ears was a tad louder than my normal tinnitus. I was just not feeling good. I went into the house told you guys a brief version of what happened and sat in my chair watching TV because of my multitudes first aid classes I knew sleeping after a minor head injury is not a good thing.

I sat in my chair and drank coffee and watched TV, Coffee helps keep me awake. I did take some aspirins for the headache, it was a really bad headache. I later was informed by the hospice nurse (who happened to work last weekend) that 8 aspirins in not a good dosage for a bad headache and she is of the false opinion no aspirins is the right number after a head injury.

She paid little attention to my argument it was not a bad head injury because it was not bleeding badly. I did admit the bruise was large, she used the fancy word contusion. She wanted me to go to the ER, I refused as I knew I would be ok.

She is a real worry wart, she woke me every couple hours all night long, she does not think I know she did it on purpose. I do!

On Sunday, I got up early had my coffee, she had to work again so she was up early for her around 7. She asked about my head and I told her the truth it hurt like crazy, but being a man, I can handle pain and sickness better than a woman, so while it might put her in the hospital for a week or so it would not me. She said some very non-nurse like words to me, also it appeared the joints on her 3rd finger stiffened. I think she has an injury to it. She refuses to go see the doc about it.

I did basically nothing Sunday, except go to the gold course with friends I went to high school with and drink a little wine. Oh and feed my chickens. I think I only had 2-3 glasses of wine but did I ever have a hangover. It was an instant hangover too, on the way home it was blinding pain. I felt the prudent thing was not to mention this to Judy as we know the nagging I would get then.

During the evening I tried to watch TV but the pain was just not worth it so I stopped, took more aspirins and suffered more nagging..........and went to bed I had a fitful sleep and was up several times. Judy had monday off and was noticing I was in pain and avoiding the light.

Of course, she wanted me to go to the ER, I refused I was not wasting the day in the ER I had things to do, I did them but not fast and in a lot of pain. Lots of thing include my frequent check ins here, which went well. Except Judy was here and I hate to say nagging again,,,but she is a wive,,

......

To go the the ER, then she said if not the ER what if I get you an appointment with your doctor. I said, sure get me an appointment with him and I will see him. I knew this would be nearly impossible. However, the Quack sold me out! He did not have an appointment but his nurse told my spousal nurse to get me to the emergency room.....I though found a loophole and avoided it. The deal was an appointment with him and not the ER.

I made it though Tuesday and Wednesday but the headache never went away, I thought the massive dosages of aspirins were helping. My vision was better but not normal. On Thursday I still had a headache but not all that bad, just a nagging pain. Being a man I was pushing through the pain to get my work done.

I went to Menard's and got a huge load of lumber including 50 2x3s to make more cages and those cage panels I like out of. They had them on the floor under those huge racks the big stores use. The 2x3s were over half gone so I had to crawl under and pick out the ones I wanted.

I had a lumber cart and was loading it with the 2x3s. Those of you that shop at Menards know on that cheaper lumber you need to sort through 75-80 2x3s to get 50 semi-straight ones. I did this on about number 43 I lifted my head and hit it right on the "contusion" from the bobcat. It was not a hard hit, but darn it hurt, I said Golly-Gee 6 or 7 times! In a row even.

I finished getting my stuff loaded. BTW if you use landscaping timbers for fence posts like I do they are $1.97 until tonight instead the normal $3.97!

I headed home I was going to stop and see a buddy of mine for coffee who suffers bad PTSD from Vietnam. I try to see him a couple times a week. I called him on the way home and begged off coffee as my head was really hurting. By the time I got home my vision was blurry, and ear ringing more than normal. I remembered all the nagging against Aspirins and thought maybe I should not take them this time.

I came online to try and ignore the pain, it did not work I hurt badly. I had texted Judy and told her I hit my head in the same spot again. She replied do you want me to come home and take you to the ER. I said "No, I will be ok, I just wanted you to know in case I am passed out when you get home what happened"....

This was the wrong thing to say... I got a text back that was a "are you sure?" I could even feel her nagging and calling me an idiot in the text message.

My son happened to call we talked a little and I told him about hitting my head again. He said he thought I should go up to the ER...BUT I know him he is so stubborn he could be bleeding to around a quart an hour and not go to the ER. So I told him he was a hypocrite and then promised I would go if it got worse.

Well, it got worse, I texted Judy and said I wanted to go to the ER. She came and got me around 4pm and we went up to Princeton. Did you know Princeton only hires women on Thursdays?

The check in person was a woman. When Judy told her the story, She says " You hit your head Saturday and you're only coming in now?"

What is with women they now how us men can handle pain?

The "triage" nurse was a woman, I got the same reply, with the caveat " You hit your head before Noon and you are just coming in now?"

Followed by my regular nurse another woman who" in addition to the above asked me what I did between noon and coming in...... Being honest I said I was online on a chat site (BYC) and I watched TV.

Her reply was " you do know after a brain injury you are suppose to let the brain rest, that means no screens!" I told her did not have a bran injury I had a bruise on my head.. Her reply was to Judy and not to me, she told Judy "I have one at home just like him"

I assume she was congratulating Judy on her lucky find of me for a husband.

BTW the nurse was not even that impressed when I told her I did not use aspirins today....

I am waiting for the doctor to save me from the female hormones surrounding me...In comes a the Doctor, A female about 16 years old. BUT I could tell she was married, probably to a nice guy.

Her response after doing an exam and asking what happened, and I am thinking the nurse ratted me out by her comment, more to Judy again than me. "Just how many times does he have to be hit in the head before he goes to the ER? Judy laughed as did the Female doctor who said " sounds like something my husband would do..." See I told you she is married to a great guy too!

I had a CT scan, at least he was a man, He asked what I hit my head on and I told him, He said he worked construction some and had done that too and knew how it could hurt. He was the only one that understood, when I told him it happened Saturday and I was trying to avoid coming in here. He understood.

The CT scan showed I had some swelling in the brain but no bleeding. I was given 4 dosages of a steroid to reduce the swelling and intravenous benadryl. I was in the hospital until about 1am. We had not eaten so Judy stopped at Casey's on the way home and we got a pizza and an Ice cream bar, I ate the bar and went to bed.

I got questioned by Judy "Why did I have to wait for 20 minutes for a pizza if you were just going to eat the ice cream bar and go to bed?"

My response of "I dunno, why did you" was improper I am guessing by her tone.

When I left the ER the doctor gave Judy the instructions instead of me. I had to be woken up every 2 hours for the next 24 hours. No lifting, driving or operating equipment. (which got us into a little debate on whether the bobcat was equipment or not yesterday afternoon, It was decided it was not)

Also no TV, computer or cell phone screen usage for 24 hours. I was not allowed to be alone for 24 hours. So that is why I had to avoid here, I tried but I could not read all the stuff you guys wrote on the big threads, I had to keep my replies short and when the warden was not watching me. I sent her to my Mom's for coffee, but it was a real fast coffee. So I just took care of my special chick, who is fast becoming spoiled by Judy...

and took 1hr and 50 minute naps most the day. I worked outside a little yesterday afternoon. MY head ache is gone today though and I can see normal..

Now you have the whole story, I am hoping I am up to a day of chicken testing, MnChickmom is coming with her daughter to help, which I really appreciate.

It will be a lot of birds for the 4 of us in one day, I hope we can get done early enough to have a wiener roast and sit around the fire tonight...

Sorry it got so long..

Ralphie, you're going to make us all go grey(er) with your stunts....
Thank goodness that thick skull came in handy for once. :hugs

PS why on earth did you take Aspirin, a blood thinner, after you whacked your noggin?! I am thinking Judy deserves to be nominated for sainthood.

Ralphie glad you are alright . Of course Swede and German are hard headed so that saved you . I should know since I fell off the roof and only had a concussion . Hitting any other place on the body might have broken something . Steroids are great . Predisone perhaps ? That is what I am on now .
