Surviving Minnesota!

The 2nd reason yesterday was a chickeners dream. This was waiting sat my doorstep when I got home.
My SOP got here yesterday as well!!

I've been stealing every spare moment to sit down with it and read more... Fascinating book, and can't believe I waited so long to get it.

Good news bad news, the empty lot between us and the chicken hating city neighbor has sold. Good news is that a house will be between her and us. Bad is that they are going to build closer to our side of their lot and they have a German shorthair hunting dog that will be living next to my coop! I really really wish we could move the coop to the other side of our house.

Good hunting dogs won't bother chickens. And if you're worried you need to tell them that if the dog is seen on your property there will be consequences. Honestly I'd have them sign something too.

The dog is just 18 months old but they did have a rc collar on her. My girls were out free ranging but on the other side of my house at the time.

At least they have an RC collar on it. At 18 months a good hunting dog knows the difference.
Have you considered poultry fencing and clipping wings?

Hi! I don't really post on here too much, but I've been having trouble finding things and thought I'd try local. I'm looking to make/buy cheap poultry transport crates for shows. Like wooden crates for standard sized poultry, most likely Lavender Orpingtons. I also want to make some for some Call Ducks I'll be getting. I always see everyone with them at the shows but I have never seen anyone selling them! And googling it has turned up nothing. Does anyone have some good plans to make cheap ones or know of anyone in MN or surrounding states that sells them for a lower price? I'm 16 and all of my money goes into my chickens so I want to spend as little as I can haha :)

I don't understand why I would clip wings... I think they could get away from a predator better with their wings intact. The fencing I would like would be privacy fencing as high as legally acceptable but that's very expensive. We'll just have to wait and hope for the best, at least they seem nice and aren't city people.

Clipped wings if you were to do fencing so they can't fly over. Not sure on your breeds but I know all of mine excpet the Cochin can fly over 10 feet high
