Put all the roosters in a bachelor pen today. Now in 10 days I can separate my hens and place a rooster in and hatch out some actual breed chickens. I'll keep that going for awhile as the kids want to bring some baby chicks to the fair to sell. We have a tiny, tiny, county fair in Oklee and it will be fun for them. The twins have this great plan to have a wagon and pile on eggs for sale with a jar and a sign. Might just be the best selling idea yet. 2, 7 year olds missing half of their teeth pulling a wagon saying, "Eggs for Sale!" I bet they could make a small fortune selling those eggs on cuteness alone! Also, my hens that are beginning to be featherless due to Spring-Time fertility may actually grow back some feathers or at least start to.
Should have another batch of chicks hatching anywhere from Monday-Wednesday. Day 21 will start Monday mid afternoon. These are all barnyard mixes so it will be fun to see what will hatch. I think most of the eggs were from our red-sex links (claim to be ISA brown) but there are Barred Rock, Dominique, Buff Orpington, Cuckoo Maran, RIR, Black Australorp, Gold and Silver Laced Wyandottes, and a few barnyard mixes in the flock. It should be interesting. These are for friends of ours. They wanted chicks so I said I would hatch them out for them.
