Surviving Minnesota!

Good morning from my sofa post chicken chores.
DH turned 50 this year and I've noted hearing changes with him especially this year.

Went to the antique store in town. Got a McCoy vase for $12 and mirror for $5. Redecorating my mantle. Wanted the $95 mirror. It's hard being a skin flint.

Happy stale air and water day!

I've been treasuring a beef stick from 2K meats since Thursday night!

From what I can tell from my chicken camera nothing is hatched and running around yet.

Good morning from lazy central. Rainy days make me lazy, hope it clears up.

Good luck in the turkey blind holm, are you going after the one that come's in your yard to fight with your toms?

Put all the roosters in a bachelor pen today. Now in 10 days I can separate my hens and place a rooster in and hatch out some actual breed chickens. I'll keep that going for awhile as the kids want to bring some baby chicks to the fair to sell. We have a tiny, tiny, county fair in Oklee and it will be fun for them. The twins have this great plan to have a wagon and pile on eggs for sale with a jar and a sign. Might just be the best selling idea yet. 2, 7 year olds missing half of their teeth pulling a wagon saying, "Eggs for Sale!" I bet they could make a small fortune selling those eggs on cuteness alone! Also, my hens that are beginning to be featherless due to Spring-Time fertility may actually grow back some feathers or at least start to.

Should have another batch of chicks hatching anywhere from Monday-Wednesday. Day 21 will start Monday mid afternoon. These are all barnyard mixes so it will be fun to see what will hatch. I think most of the eggs were from our red-sex links (claim to be ISA brown) but there are Barred Rock, Dominique, Buff Orpington, Cuckoo Maran, RIR, Black Australorp, Gold and Silver Laced Wyandottes, and a few barnyard mixes in the flock. It should be interesting. These are for friends of ours. They wanted chicks so I said I would hatch them out for them.

Totally unexpected as I walked in the room with the incubator to check the humidity. They have been on lock down for 24 hours. It is day 19 and 5 hours according to the hatch timer. WELL TWO eggs have externally pipped and I heard chirping! I as NOT expecting that yet! They have 2 days left to cook! So Ralphie had one arrive a week early, right? Now I have at least 2 trying to come early. WHAT IS GOING ON?? I am not sure. I do know that all of the eggs I set were all collected and set on the same day they were laid so I could not have had any counter starters, where as maybe Ralphie did? Either way it was an exciting thing to find as MAYBE we will have Easter Chicks! Or they could sit there like that for 2 days. Who knows.
