Try setting out fly bait. It is not deadly to any animal that can vomit, but it will kill a coon almost instantly. I wait until I put up all my animals and tell the neighbors I'm putting it out. It will make other animals sick. The next morning your coon will be dead.. You just mix it with some juice or sugar water.
We did this a lot the past two years and found the coons about 3 feet from the poison every time

Last night I saw a Mink on the road in front of the drive way. I wonder if he is my predator now? Then tonight there was a HUGE black bear a few miles from the farm. Some friends and I were driving out to Richwood and saw it out in a field by a road so we drove down the road and sure enough it was a big old bear. And then on the way home there was a huge porcupine by the farm! Lots of animals lol...

We had a neighbor with a gorgeous fox red lab. Then I didnt see her any more doing her run with her owner. I asked him about her and he said his neighbor had set out rat poison to kill the red squirrels and she had gotten into it.
I don't believe the poison put one dent in the red squirrel population here in Chippewa national forest.
That dip poop may as well take a rubber hammer to a rock pile.

I'm with you Bobbi-j on setting out poison. If we have mice in the garage we use 5 gallon bucket with water and peanut butter trick. Works like a charm. No sticky traps here either.
I guess I understand someone with coon problems about ready to try anything though.
But how about just getting the coops buttoned up good with solid boards and harware cloth...?

Good morning Chickeners . . . . that is so sad about the neighbors dog BC. Obviously the neighbors did not warn anyone. Well I did it. Signed off of FB. Did not delete it yet but did disconnect.
Guess what I got this morning?! And invite via FB from a niece-in-law that I have not seen for two years to her MK party. I think I will go back and just delete that FB as it is all FB fault that there are no filters in these peoples minds.
Chickens are doing fine and I have to get out the camera and practice - practice - practice with it again so I know how to turn it on - :hmm - so I will do a photo bomb and post it. That is probably be Saturday morning. Now you all have something to look forward to. ;)

morning  another rainy day.....

At the risk of getting booted off our thread...I kinda agree with BC...shouldn't we just try to secure out coops a little better instead of setting out poison? These animals are only doing what they are programmed to do. There is no vendetta on their part and they aren't doing it intentionally to cause us emotional, or financial pain. They are wild animals looking for a meal and if we fail to provide a secure place for OUR poultry, isn't it our fault? Does anyone actually understand the pain that causes the animal....it's a slow and extremely painful way to go. Unfortunately I've seen what it can do to a dog-it's not pretty. Nothing deserves being subject to that kind of death. and red squirrels, what the heck people...they don't eat chickens? Why is it so easy for people to kill for convenience? ....ok I'm jumping off my soap box now.
