It does work almost instantly, but someone who hasn't used it wouldn't know. I don't use rat poison. It does cause a slow painful death. All my chickens are still alive the coon was around for about a week, and nothing else would get rid of it. I am not going to let it come every night until it figures out a way to get them. I put the life of my chickens above the coon. They are my pets, but they are a food source for my family. Coons can live up in the woods all they want as long as they leave us alone, and I still try everything else as a possibility first. Unfortunately, they won't stop once they find one thing. They'll be back every night and they are smart and can be dangerous. They are not cats. They are not pets. They are wild predators here to tear up everything looking for one tiny morsel.We did this a lot the past two years and found the coons about 3 feet from the poison every time
