Surviving Minnesota!

Oo an other coop build going on. Nice. We are renovating a 60+ year old coop we inherited from my husband's great aunt. Spent the weekend putting new shakes on, need to pick up way more bundles than we thought so we can finish (most expensive coop roof ever) but it's looking good. Got new windows just need new plywood on the inside and patch a few holes in the floor and a few boards for siding. Then we'll be set to put up perches and nesting boxes and all that good stuff. And my dad decided it needed a cupola so he's gonna build one for me.

Looks to be in a lot better condition than my 50 year old coop... It's awful cute. How many chickens does it fit?

You know I'm not quite sure. It's basically a 10x12' building, nothing inside. I have no idea how they had it layed out originally so we're just guessing how to arrange things. I only have 4 brahmas right now though I will probably add more next year. I can't imagine fitting more than 6-8 nesting boxes in there along with perches and food and all that.

Elise. I'm jealous of that coop! Perhaps test the beautiful weathered boards for durability against a good sized animal pushing on boards. (Dry rot) But I'd hate to replace those beauts.

For sure holm...don't get me wrong...you did the work on those cool birds. Tended to their needs, polishing, showmanship. Great job. I love seeing you kids taking home the ribbons and hardware.
I feel kind of cool hanging out with you all. LOL.

Ed, Im not used to telling you to stay cool. Good luck with AC repairs.

Ralphie. I've got a 1999 JD LT rider. I don't think I want new tbh. Would be nice...but sounds like the way they are building stuff it doesn't matter the brand. I should go check all my lug nuts and get that off my weekly list of things to do. :hmm :lau

Yeah we went through and removed all the rotted boards and 2x4s and got some replacements. Probably going to put all the new boards on the back and move good old boards to the front just to keep the look on the front at least until they weather down a bit. And I think we're gonna water seal it rather than paint it. I like the gray look myself.

Morning crazies...
BC, bringing any chooks to the reunion?

Ivie, my dog chases all the deer off too. Stinkin' dog, those were some great photography opportunities.

I would love to bring my chickens. Because nobody takes care of them like me... Right? But I suspect major eye rolls at the suggestion. These people like playing red neck games like flippy cup and bean bags all day. Sort of like an olympiad of hillbillies. A little chicken poop bingo would fit right in I think personally.

Dogs chasing deer:

I'd remove all the rotten boards from my coop, but I fear there might not be anything left.

Tell 'em you ain't going unless you bring the chooks. :thumbsup

Yeah, I know, us crazy photographers don't care if we don't get green stuff in our garden ever again... We just want nice pics.

I have the deer chased out for the most part...except that one night the fawns demolished my hostas at the coop. But now the cockerel gang has trimmed down my showy flower pots to dried dusty leaves and roots. Chickens costing me money....all the time.

I'm not especially handy, so I'm pleased at the progress. I just started finally today. Got in about 4-5 hours with the help of 6 y/o boy and DH (mostly just with moving and lifting.)
