Surviving Minnesota!

I went to check on my meat chickens, oh, an hour or two ago... they were out of their tractor pecking contentedly at the grass along with the broody hen I had put in there with them (because their tractor has no nest boxes and gets moved 2x/day). They did not leave their tractor. Their tractor left them! It was parked halfway over the barbed wire fence with a wooden post on its inside. WTH? No wind today, 87*. It must’ve been a little twister/dust devil thing.

DH helped me move all the birdies into the adjacent fenced yard then we got the tractor (undamaged) off the fence and back on its feet. Then I put them all back in, fixed the water and all... then I realized I hadn’t even taken a picture. What good is all that without a picture? No one was hurt but the fence.

The power of a frustrated broody is to be feared :barnie

It’s happening....

Patsy Kline the Welsummer’s neck feathers have poofed off her body. Every time she flutters her wings it’s like a pillow fight has happened. She had a rough molt last fall. Looks like it’s the same for her. They all got protein treats today. Can of tuna. One thin shell egg scrambled. Some old chuckeye steak bites. And two old bananas.
Freya the barred rock’s black stripes look brown now. I’m amazed by that feather blanching.

Tomorrow I visit a college with my son but I have bronchitis. Started a zpack yesterday.

Just a follow up on my mother. We took her off life support 9 days after surgery. Her heart wouldn’t circulate good enough after the mitral valve transplant. Her passing was 5 months on the dot of Dad’s. No words are needed. I know she is with him and her good roots have just now been noted in these hard times.
The business of taking care of her business and cleaning a home of 40 years has kept me away here. Weve got more to do.
But during a forced rest day due to this bronchitis hiccup. I got some chicken tv and spoiling done.

Thank God for chickens.
