Surviving Minnesota!

Going to be a big weekend for us. We are getting a nurse/family milk cow this weekend! We were trying to hold off awhile to get one, until we were more ready to milk. But this cow apparently takes calves with ease and is one of those that lets anything suck.

She's going to have one calf with her and we need to find 1-2 more. I think we will be able to find a couple Holstein calves pretty easily.

We are so excited, our farm has been just missing something since we sold off the goats.

Dragonfly Farms out of AR. Other than the coloring, they are nice looking birds so far and she was very nice to deal with. But I am a bit disappointed about the coloring. What makes the columbian pattern so pretty and regal is that lacing with solid white/buff, and no spots mixing in.
Week one of adoptive mama has gone well!
So I ordered some Columbian Wyandottes from a breeder....well they are all roosters. :( Also ended up having lots of black coloring spots everywhere. So with how difficult it was to track someone down and then end up with those results, I'm passing on the breed for awhile.
So I just wanted to set the record straight here and give an update since I can't edit my post anymore. I kind of jumped the gun lol. The Columbian Wyandotte roosters I got from Dragonfly Farms really grew into their colors and patterns and are, in my opinion just stunning big boys. I can't get over how handsome they are now. We are going to keep 2 of them and try and find some hens for them next year.

Is she bred back?

She would have to been bred in the last 2-3 weeks... I personally would have her preg checked before paying for her.. If she isn’t bred now you miss out on a whole year and just feed a cow..

It also means she might not have settled a couple times already...some people selling “exposed” cattle are unscrupulous as used cat salesman are.

The sun came out this evening!!!

I went mushroom hunting and watched my birds luxuriate under the big yellow orb.
