Surviving Minnesota!

Morning . Coffee is brewing . What is everyone doing ? Ralphie did you plant pumpkin or squash . I have a few butternut squash . Summer squash went to seed . Still getting a few tomatoes . Season is about done .
I planted both.

I planted acorn and buttercup squash, a couple varieties of pie pumpkins and the large “cow” pumpkins. My largest this year was under 100 pounds, I was disappointed in it.

I have more squash and pumpkins than I can use. Many will become chicken and turkey feed.

Morning . Cooler today morning rain predicted . I planted a couple of tomato plants at the lake . They did well but never ripened . I see it is a challenge to get ripe ones . Not enough heat . Planted early June as they were still selling plants .

Yah Jerry. The best ones for me were my deck plants . The plants in my garden were spindly and less productive and green for the longest time. Actually my tomato plants were green up to middle August or later I believe! This year was bad for that.
I had a red slicer like beefeater. I think and two yellow pears. ( they are like eating candy) they produced huge for me. But definitely a lot of green ones in the end that I’m ripening in newspaper now.

I called Pearl and Loretta’s new chicken lady for eggs. I’m on her wait list for Thursday or Friday. I’ll go pick them up and visit the girls. Maybe see Bob White too.
I guess Pearl has been nesting a lot.

It was a weird summer, we did not have any ripe tomatoes until after Sept 1st. If I can’t get them here in the banana zone those of you in the tundra are screwed.

I ended up with more than I knew what to do with.
The WW canned some. I canned some. Then we gave a bunch away. One guy took 15 gallons, a friend of The WW took about 50 gallons twice. Those were mainly Roma.

I over planted Roma’s. I think I had 20 of them.

I only had one beefsteak/big girl/big boy or whatever, and it never produced a ripe tomato on the plant, but we have a couple paper bags full in the house ripening now.
