i've 'created' a monster methinks...

made a mistake on what day lockdown was for some cochin eggs... went to put them in the hatcher today and 2 had already pipped. 1 pipped within minutes of being moved also.

Yes - you have created a monster! A SFH-loving monster! Someday... when I get a BIGGER coop....

Watch out chicken world!

Thanks everybody! Sparrow is doing a great job despite the chilly temps (for Alabama). Does anyone have any tips on integrating them into the flock? I've got them locked up in a small henhouse by themselves right now. At what age/size should I let her take them out into the fenced side yard? It really surprised me when I took them a boiled egg and carrot treat yesterday that the peeps are every bit as friendly as ones I hatched last spring even though mom is raising them.

Bulldogma - please send me the link or info on the book!!

i would say as long as they aren't with any other birds, let them out ASAP. while they still have immunity from the momma via egg, the sooner they get on the ground the sooner they;ll gain their own immunity to things that are always there, like coccidia.

I really love the photo of the chicks peeking from her feathers. That one should be in the book!

I thought we were going to lose one of ours today. My son loves holding this one bird, and he was chasing her too much trying to catch her, and she ran down the road. My husband herded her back, but that bird was ready to head to the next county! He didn't think he was going to get her back. Lucky they told me after the fact or I would have had a stroke.

Here's some pics of my 3 SFH that were hatched out on 8/9

2 Face - the other side of his beak is yellow - I'm thinking a HE?!?

This is 2 Face with my Ancona

This is BB - another Roo?!?

Sorry they're fuzzy, they're very quick! - I'm somewhat new to photography! (that's Bear in the front of the pic. We're looking for a new home for him.)

This is Runt - My little girl.

Any opinions on whether or not the boys are boys are greatly appreciated! They just look way different in the face then Runt.

Yes, I would say you have 2 boys there. Very pretty!

Gorgeous birds and beautiful pics! If it is too late to submit them for the BYC calendar, you should at least put the second one in for POW - I LOVE that pic! I wish I lived closer, I would love to have some of Sparrow's babies.

Hey guys -- REALLY sorry for all your hatching problems. Would a cute pic of Sparrow's new brood make you smile just a little? And if anybody is close to Alabama, I definately don't need 10 more swedes....
