Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Thnx for all the info! The only reason I mentioned the crested to crested breeding is a few people said that vaulted skull can result in it and that's not a desired trait in SFH. I LOVE this thread! Everyone on here is so helpful!!

All of my boys started out with a crooked comb but then they straightened out, except for the crested birds. Theirs tended to stay a little wavy.

I hope mine straighten out.

For the longest time, I thought mine were all girls, but now I am not sure. Can't catch any photos as they are too busy to pose! Their combs and wattles are smaller than the other chicks I hatched at the same time, but that doesn't mean much as they are different breeds.

Just candled my eggs that are due to hatch 10/17 9 are growing including the 2 cracked ones that I put wax on. They were all moving, LOTS! I'm not getting my hopes up on this hatch however.

Big hugs to all!

So how do I know if the air cells are the right size? I didn't trace them when I put them in.

Should I check them again between now and lockdown on Monday and trace that one?

i don't usually worry about air cells, but when in doubt i hold off putting in the hatcher until i see drawdown occur. then they are usually good to go. but then i dry incubate so either they've lost what humidity they're going to, or not. either way they still go in lockdown.

Meet our lovely Swedish Flower Hens! We have 4 spunky ones that have been such a great addition to our flock. They are about 5-6 months old. No eggs yet, but hoping for some soon!

ABOVE: Lovisa, Agda, and Bold-Eagle(ony un-crested SFH we have that my son named since she looks like an eagle he says).

Agda (named after a chicken in a Swedish song), our friendliest SWF. She loves to follow me around the backyard.

Elsa. She's actually much more grey with almost not brown, but for some reason this picture came out strange. It was a surprise to us how gorgeous she came out to be!
