I think he could end up looking very similar to Harley?
What do you think?
Diane

I think that is is a very strong probability. Same parents and similar pattern. One observation that I would add is that I purchased Harley at nearly the same age as this younger brother is now. This one has a touch more white but he is larger than Harley was at the same age. Hence, my opinion that he may wind up even better than Harley. He is also friendlier than Harley was. But this may not be a fair comment, since Harley's welcoming committee was completely underwhelmed with the new kid on the block. Harley has risen above and is clearly the number one rooster in this flock.

One new SFH. 2 crested parents. I had thought I got eggs from the non-crested but seem to have been wrong. I prefer non-crested birds...and I sure didn't want to breed "super crests".

Does this look like a vaulted skull to you?

Please expound...how do you ship a larger bird?

Shipping box, like this. http://poultry2.tripod.com/id3.html

Alas, I am unable to get hubby to budge on an incubator larger than the two I have now (hatch in one, incubate in the other), especially a big one (it would be so,much.fun!!). He did point out we don't really have a place to set up a large cabinet incubator full-time. Sometimes the man has some sense.

He is looking askance at a way I could possibly add 20 to the 40 or so I can already incubate in one styrofoam incubator and get 60 chicks (hooray!) but he still might relent there to shut me up....I pointed out I might do way better with shipped eggs with a Brinsea (or Dickey...sigh) and stop wasting money to get one or two chicks (or none). I mentioned it's time to build a chicken barn so I could hatch and brood outside instead of the dining room (and I would have space for a big incubator...mwhahahaha) and he glared at me :gig

He helped me with Stupid this evening, who foolishly hopped up on top the coop which makes him very easy to catch, and when he held and I spread, I see a small feather growing in!! It's just very slow. So he gets a stay of execution for now while I watch and make sure it comes in properly.

Wasp might not...he actually connected with hubby (wearing a red shirt) and left a scratch in his shin this evening. Even though DH says to not kill him, I might process Wasp with the meaties (assuming I can catch him...he is wild.)

Very cute!

That looks like a normal skull to me, but am no expert. I am guessing it will be a moderate sized crest.

there are specialized boxes approved by usps for shipping poultry waterfowl and pigeons. if you google poultry shipping boxes you can find a couple places that sell them.

you put a bit of bedding the bird(s) and a few slices of fruit (no liquids are allowed but fruit will keep them going long enough). seal the box up and send by usps express mail (next or 2nd day delivery). there is more involved in it, but that's the short and sweet... there are entire threads here on byc devoted to that topic if you search for it.
