Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Ah... but I think you still have to account accordingly.  If an egg is clear through Day 7 -10 time frame, then it was not fertile.  So infertile eggs do not count against hatching percentages.  Ya jes caint hech an enfutearl aig!!!  :p

If the egg began to develop, resulted in a blood ring, or otherwise, that would count against your percentage, even though it was no fault of yours.  Shipping can be very hard on eggs and to get 11/24 for shipped eggs is still doing pretty good.  I have had shipped eggs that resulted in 2/20, 1/8, 5/9, 1/12, 0/14, etc., hatches.  My results were very disheartening but were in line with what many others experience with shipped eggs.

Some were clear @ 7 days, also had 2 blood rings.

Hope the dry hatching well improve my next hatch!

I will candle the last 4 eggs tonight to check for internal peeps.
May also try the float test.

I did pip one on my last hatch but got too eager & it hemorraghed.

Hoping the last few make it.

Need to vaccinate & then put under my broody CCL.

I have three juveniles that I have almost completely decided are roosters. Dangit. One I know is a boy, he told me so during sunrise the other morning. The other two haven't crowed yet. I know the pictures probably aren't good enough to tell, but what do you guys think? I posted the known boy for comparison.

The crower.

Yup, three boys there.

I have my FIRST flower baby! It just hatched!!! Have several more external pips, so I may be waking up to a few more babies in the morning. Tomorrow should be a fun day. :)

Congrats on all the hatching chicks!!! Hooray!

Off to bed - long (but good) day. We closed on our house and will start moving over the next couple weeks. Got a lot to do to get my new coop ready... but I'm really excited about it. We'll still have the trailer coop, a hoop coop (hope we can move it OK) and a small coop.

It'll be "fun" moving with 50+ chickens - LOL!!! Thankful for the trailer coop!!

Hope your move goes great!

ok, well, in an interesting turn of events, it seems I have sold more cockerels than pullets so far on the SFH that are available...

I have 2 blue mille cockerels left and 5 girls! (started out 5 cockerels 6 pullets)

so I am now offering them as singles/pair/trio/quad. if I sell more pullets than cockerels, then the last pullets will be paired with remaining boys.

I will be at Gilmanor (Glen Allen VA) in just a month! coming up quick, it's May 5th.

I can deliver them if you live north, but would require a deposit on whatever you want...

These girls should start laying by the end of May or so. one younger girl a bit longer, she was a January hatch.

Pullets $50
Cockerels $30
Pairs $75
Trio $100

I will also have a number of SFH that I will be selling for another person - birds from my flock that this person is unable to keep. There should be about 16+. I will know more in the next few weeks and will be able to provide photos at that time. They will be available for presale - at this time I can only promise pairs, trios or cockerels. (I'm trying not to get left with unsold cockerels.) These birds will be sired by Mace, Sorenson or Blue. I do have a bit of interest already, so once I have them and can get photos, they will be sold based upon the order of contact - as in whoever contacted me first will have first choice and so-on.

Prices are the same as Ki4got:

Cockerels $30
Pairs $75
Trio $100

And if I have any left over, Pullets $50
