Swedish Flower Hen Thread

just a quick question....are you sure that is a pure Swede? I only ask because of the leg color....so far all I read from SWEDEN is hat their flocks over there all have yellow legs! If it is pure bred I need to make a not of that, anyone else have Swedes with this leg color, please let me know so I can make a point!! Thanks Justin

"Mottled" legs are part of the breed in the darker color birds. It's not that common, but it has been mentioned on Swedish sites.

So bdm... the legs on my black look gray in the photo. I'll have to take a closer look to see what they are in natural light.

Is that normal for SFH?

Well... I know the Swedish folks say "mottled," but you might want to ask the breeder if she has any dark colored SFH with mottled legs. I'll be interested to see how this one matures! I'll bet it develops more flowering as it gets older.

Quote: well, the 4 that i got from Kim (forgot her byc name, sorry) have greyish edges to their leg scales, but they are still young so i have hopes they'll yellow out. the eyes are still light too, but look like they're turning towards the reddish color.

now if i could catch that &*(%$ varmint that tried to steal my buff orp off her broody nest... she's got one bitten foot, but otherwise ok. not sure how she got away or why it didn't follow, but we found her hiding next to hubby's car. i worry it'll try to get to the sfh kids...

LM - It'll put your mind at ease if you contact the breeder and ask about this... make sure no accidental intermingling happened within a 3+ week period before the egg was laid.

This may well be a leg color we simply haven't seen a lot of here in the US... it doesn't mean it can't be part of the breed.

LM I didnt mean to worry you just was wondering! I LOVE all the colors you have espically the orange one and the blue one!!!! Those are my favs!
