Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Does anyone here ship chicks? Our 1st stock is straight from GFF. They are now 6 months old and we need more hens! I'd like to expand the gene pool some. Also don't like working with shipped eggs. California is a long ways to ship!

Sigh....I just candled my 24 SFH eggs, only 15 looked viable.

I have the Brinsea Octo 20 with the humidity pump.
The temp is set at 100.1 & humidity at 48%.

Any suggestions?

The 15 eggs are swimming like crazy.

One eggs had a bit of yolk on it & was stuck to the foam. I candled before seeing & saw NO cracks.
I did remove that egg, but left the others for now.

Any suggestions?

Hmmm... it's possible they got too cold while being shipped and the eggs against the outside of the box could have frozen a bit... You just never know what to expect with USPS.

None of them had any yolk on them when they were packed. It's possible if one froze it could have leaked a bit. *sigh*

Well - at least you have 15 swimmers.

you get a decent hatch!

Temp is a little high. And my sfh eggs do better with the dry hatch method. About 15 to 20ish perfect. With all this melting snow I haven't even added water. Lock down is in the am. For my 2nd batch. I'll up humidity to 50 percent then

I forgot to post results of the last hatch! (checked my records...) I got 27 eggs from Leigh this time around. 24 went to lockdown, 20 hatched!

Leigh your eggs arrived in great shape! didn't mean to imply otherwise.
I candled before I placed the eggs in the incy, ALL were perfect!!!! Iwas just curious as to what could have caused this. I didn't see a crack when I candled it last night . Very strange.

Just wanted to make sure I had my settings correct, as I have read about dry hatching here. Just wondered if the humidity is too low our too high.

Thanks again Leigh the eggs are beautiful & I am excited.
