Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Ok, I candled and have 28+ (a few maybes) SFH due to hatch between the 28th and the 3rd. I saw dry incubation recommended so thats what I have been trying. I am concerned though, how dry is dry? Here no added water equals 16% humidity, is that to low?

I had 6/6 cream legbar eggs hatch with the last week of incubation prior to lock down was 16%.

Well my roo with a damaged leg isn't looking so good today. He flew into a dogs face at 12 weeks, and well his leg was broken. He has been doing fine. About 26 chicks have been hatched from him.
But know the foot is swollen and not looking good. He doesn't want to walk on it. Might be time to cull since I'm seeing pain issues. I hate this, he such a pet. And turned out so well.
So I guess I'm looking for another roo ASAP...

Great to see you again, KY!!!

Thank you!

I have the Brinsea Octo 20 with the humidity pump. I set the pump at 30% and it rarely turns on as the house stays at 31% - 32%. At lockdown I raise it to 65% and usually have great hatches with my SFH.

How have you been treating him? Before you cull you could try some homeopathic Arnica. I would use the 6C to start. You can find it at most natural food stores and vitamin stores. If you need directions for using it (don't use the package instructions), just PM me. If you can't save him, I have plenty of spare roos if you are anywhere near N. KY.

Picture time!

Y'all remember Snoleopard who ended up with a broken leg when I stepped on her? She is doing well. She still had a lump in that leg, but is in no pain and does not even seem to limp. She's maturing nicely and should start laying in the next month or so.

And this is Sorenson's eldest son, Severus. Good wings, no springs, and seems to be maturing to be a very handsome roo.

Berta and Marta's younger sister:

And Severus again:

I got my youngsters sorted out too! 8 girls 7 boys. keeping 2 of each, these are most of the ones i'll have available at Gilmanor first Saturday in May. still debating if I take deposits or first come...

i'll be selling them as pairs or trios.

not the best pics, the camera doesn't like shooting thru wire.

I love Swedish Hens! I am still getting acclimated to posting in the forums, but I figured I would introduce myself to this thread since they are our favorite breed at our micro farm. Here are some pics of our rooster Sven and his offspring (thankfully the crest genes were passed on!). Sven is a little small for his age (2yrs), but he is so well behaved and makes a great roo!

400
available roo, has small side sprig on one side of comb. Has another that i can't decide if it's a sprig or point towards the back. If there's any interest, I'll get more pics.

Neither has split wing or crooked toes

If no ones interested in the next week or two, they are going to freezer camp.
