Swedish Flower Hen Thread

I haven't been on this thread in forever! Brutal winter and I lost two of my crested girls and a lot of damage to some combs, but they survived. Now it's hatch time!
Five out of my first hatch a week ago, but a lot of those eggs spent time in sub freezing temps in early March. Hopefully things get better with my upcoming weekly hatches!

Our two boys

A blue based

And a black based

They are near the same age, October hatches. I expect this one to fill in and be a massive size. The other one will be nice but his frame is not nearly as impressive as this guy!

An un-named blue-based that I really like!

A roost line-up with my least favorite being 3rd back. She just looks so normal to me. I think it's the black based MF pattern that I'm not delighted about. I like the other colors better.

And lovely brita whom everyone admires. She likes people. I think it's because she can't see us.

CackleJoy, Brita really is lovely!

Last night 17 SFH went to the hatcher. I started with 21 and had two clear and one blood ring at five days. The last one eliminated must have bitten the dust somewhere around 8 or 9 days.

Every last one of them is beautiful! I think what I love about this breed is the amount of variation in my yard. I have some favorite colors, but when I look at my flock as a whole, I'm always stunned by the beauty of the mix of colors. My all-white girl kind of stands out, but has become one of my absolute favorites for her personality. I squat down and hold my hands out, and she walks right into them every time to be picked up. Then she snuggles down in my arms and goes to sleep.

This breed rocks!

As I was reading through the older posts on this thread, there was a couple discussions last year about feather sexing SFH chicks. Is everyone still in agreement that it usually works with this breed?
