I'm sad this evening. I was out looking at the chicks in my brooder - and I counted, and one was missing. I counted again - still one missing. I started looking and found him on the other side of the cardboard I had around the brooder to help hold in heat. Apparently he flew up and over - and then couldn't get back in, and it was way too cold without the warmth of the heat lamps and the other chicks. I had no idea they could fly that high at less than 3 weeks in age. I had planned on taking the cardboard out this weekend anyway, but I went ahead and did it tonight. So - now I have only 10 SFH instead of 11. Poor thing. I hope he didn't suffer, although he must've been panicked not to be able to get back to his buddies.![]()
I am sorry for your loss, and I certainly understand how you feel.
