Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Beautiful afternoon here in TN. Thought I would post a few new photos of the SFHs!

I am going to have my hands full with this little guy!

Cute crested pair!

I love how her feathers look frosted! (the gray one)

Four of the girls!

You're flock is beautiful.

I know who I will be asking for eggs from next. :)

Thanks for showing which chick, I love that Auburn color and the amount of speckling. I would have guessed a mahogany chick or a black one. I have a few that look like that one so will have my fingers crossed. I've been staring at my chicks wondering what they are all going to look like. Some of the three week olds are starting to get some interesting feathering.

Here they are as chicks. That rooster was the top center photo.

enggass, I plan on selling/trading some eggs and hatching for local sales.

Edited to add: Thanks, Jeremy! How are the chicks doing?

They're growing like weeds.

Each one is different from the next, they're feathering in and starting to hop all over the brooder, it's about time to move them out to the garage. I don't want to though, I love watching them change every day.

Contrastphoto, That first roo is drop dead gorgeous!! I have one almost just like him. I'm so excited to see that he's probably going to keep his confetti coloring. That little grey hen is sure pretty ....well, they all are!

Hi again,

I haven't been able to follow this posting but I do have another question. How many here has gotten chicks with crooked toes? I'm sure you don't remember but I did buy chicks. Two of which have crests. I'm not sure which are roos and pullets yet. Today one of them got out of the brooder and I noticed the very crooked toes.

Now must confess I didn't examine them very closely when I got them since I didn't imagine they would come this way. I might have noticed but shrugged it off as a youthful thing being chicks and all.

I also noticed that another two have crooked toes. I'm very disappointed.

I'm sad this evening. I was out looking at the chicks in my brooder - and I counted, and one was missing. I counted again - still one missing. I started looking and found him on the other side of the cardboard I had around the brooder to help hold in heat. Apparently he flew up and over - and then couldn't get back in, and it was way too cold without the warmth of the heat lamps and the other chicks. I had no idea they could fly that high at less than 3 weeks in age. I had planned on taking the cardboard out this weekend anyway, but I went ahead and did it tonight. So - now I have only 10 SFH instead of 11. Poor thing. I hope he didn't suffer, although he must've been panicked not to be able to get back to his buddies.

Are they from GF? I would let them know if so - or whomever you got them from. If from GF, I'm sure they were quite costly. May I ask what people are paying for their SFH chicks?

I believe rancher hicks said he got them from somebody who got theirs from GF. I got mine from GF and one of the cockerels does have crooked toes. The outer toe on each foot curves way back to the side. It can be genetic but can also be caused by incubation issues. My guy has been taken out of the SFH flock - just in case. I have way too many boys, anyway, so it's not an issue. I figure he's the free one I got and he's wonderful eye candy!! GF still lists the price on their website as $19 per day old chick.
