"Linnea", one of three hens.

"Sorrel" is smitten with "Mitzi the Spitzi". Follows her everywhere, neglecting his other duties.

"Bay" and "Darnell", the two crested boys, are more than happy to pick up the slack. ;)

Finally, my new coop sign. :)

Just checking in almost ready with the hoop coop to put these guys in. The doors take some doing. Hinges are very expensive. Ugh!

They're easy enough to build and cheap too. Just not when your retired. This is a half hoop and will hold 5-6 birds. The hardware cloth is the biggest cost.

Hey Jeremy, my Swedish are really gorgeous - I have a few stunning roos that I am sad to have to part with. I also am really pleased with my basques. I had a serious moment of weakness last night and now have wheaton Marans eggs coming from Ray; silver penciled rocks from Dick; and blue/copper Marans from Nancy. Oh, did I forget the brabanters I was waitlisted on that also arrive next week?

I have lemon cuckoo orps and black orp peeps in brooder #1; my basques in brooder #2; giant blue cochins in brooder #3; and my porcelain d'uccle roo who is not only illegal but outed himself by crowing at 4 am (ugh. talk about busted) in brooder #4. Brooder #5 is awaiting the hatch of Mary's icelandics and blue isbars who are currently percolating away in one of my 'bators.

I need an intervention. Seriously. I know on this site I have good company :)

I was so excited yesterday when I recieved an email from Jenny at Greenfire Farms that my SFH chicks had been shipped! Yippeeeee!!

I was up bright an early ready to run to the Post office today when I recieved another email from Jenny saying they got my chicks back this morning! Apparently, there's an embargo on shipping live animals to my zip code! What the heck?!! I got a batch of chicks shipped on Feb. 1st from AandJ's with no problem. I'm sooooo disappointed! A trip to the airport to have them shipped by air isn't do-able as I'm 2 1/2 hours from the nearest airport and have Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats due to kid anytime now!

Has anyone dealt with this shipping embargo before? If so, how long do they usually last? I'm really bummed

This is from Jordan Farms' FaceBook page: "If your shipping zip codes start with any of these three digits - that means there is an USPS embargo on shipping live animals to your zip. We will have to ship to an alternative zip code. USPS embargod zip codes begin with 044, 046, 047, 148, 149, 307, 356-58, 373, 374, 466, 496, 544, 548 556-558, 564, 590-593, 596-599, 620, 622-624, 628-634, 636-639, 648, 650-658, 716-722, 725-729, 740, 741, 743-749, and 821."

Maybe it's a weather thing and/or they've had too many things die being shipped to those areas????? It could be too cold or maybe tornado danger. I looked up a couple and found Maine and Oklahoma.

I just shipped chicks yesterday to one of these zip codes in AR. It is a weather related embargo- either too hot or too cold. You have to check the weather before trying to ship to these areas- best to call the post office you are shipping to and they will tell you if their weather is OK to accept animals. They said they would take the chicks I was sending. More of our postal service inconsistency!

That's a neat coop. Would go well with my dome home. :) I'm curious to see how you finish it up.

it could be that there is not a processing hub close to these codes. The PO is closing processing plants and moving the work and consolidating. For example. I'm in Syracuse, but priority mail and express are late. Priority mail must go to Rochester first and then come East. My last three shipments of express mail were a day late.

The Utica, Watertown and now Binghamtion mail is or will be processed in Syracuse. Then redirected. I believe the 148 and 149 are in NYS.
