Swedish Flower Hen Thread

These are the only SFH's I have. If I'm lucky enough to NOT have 3 pullets or 3 roos then I'm worried that breeding crested will result in too large of a crest. Is this not an issue?

I'm new to this and would appreciate being set straight on this if I'm wrong.

From my understanding, breeding crested to crested results in a large crest which makes them vulnerable to predators. It's my understanding that in Sweden this trait was not favored for this reason.
The first two look crested, the fuzziness of the last picture makes it hard for me to say for sure. You got three different colors and they're all cute. If they're crested lets hope you have 3 hens as it will be easier for you to find a non crested roo.

Thank you. That's what I thought I had read. I'll try to get a better pic of that third chick

hmmm, how come this would happen with this breed and not be an issue with the english araucana which is crested. as far as I know they don't have a problem with it

. I will have to check this out.....
I have a crested roo but only have one crested hen, my other four aren't crested...I had another crested girl that I lost this winter. I personally prefer the crests

Here are my SFH,taken with cell phone sorry.
I am going to get some better pics this weekend.
I got these from Daisyjack so looking forward to breeding them.

10 SFH eggs went into the incubator yesterday (thanks Duemig10!!!!!) and I'm so excited. How am I supposed to wait 21 days to see these little ones?!? Will be taking pics daily as soon as they hatch.

Just hatched 7 from Duemig10 last night.... Healthy little boogers. Looks like all but 1 might be crested. Hope not, I am planning on going for all non crested in my flock. Looks like trading time....

Awesome! I'm so glad to hear they were healthy. I've been over to see her chicken-land a few times (we live very close by) so I knew she takes great care of them. I have a crested cockerel from her, but I tend to like that better than non-crested, as I am not breeding, just enjoying. I also have a non-crested female. In fact, I've gotten 2 females and 2 males in total from her and only one has been crested. Hopefully you will have more than one non-crested!

You could always give 'em a haircut. . . JK  That's a great hatch for you. Look forward to the pics. I also have birds from Duemig10.
