Swedish Flower Hen Thread

I thinks it is a breeders responsibility to maintain the the integrity of their flock, especially if they are going to sell what they have, we want to improve what we have not allow the breeds to be destroyed by our negligence. We all love our birds and want to improve them, nothing wrong with crosses I have several.

She sure is lovely, though.  I do like that color - so beautiful with the crest.  I understand about not breeding her, though. 

Let me know if you need/want eggs because all I have are Swedes directly from Greenfire.  Well, I do have one Ameraucana roo but he has always been in a separate pen with his two Ameraucana hens - I never, ever let them range with the rest, and the rest are all Swedes.    

Thanks! I'll make a note in my records for future reference. I think it's important to know who is trying to preserve the integrity of the breed.

The second batch of 11 eggs from my 3 pullets have hatched. 9 of the 11 hatched, one got its nose down in the waterer and drowned.
I put the 8 out in the brooder with the 4 from last week. They are doing well.
BTW the 2 white chicks from last week are still all white, no other colors yet.

Been off for a while, and I have been noticing that my SFH roos are a LOT nicer to the other birds than the other roos. I thought the crosses had murdered the littlest, most timid Silkie hen by flying over the fence and into the Silkie run. She was just laying there when I looked out, saw them in there and ran out to chase them off. I really thought she was dead; she has a vaulted skull and they had pecked her head pretty severely. She now lives in the brooder box with the last hatch of the season.

If I could have caught any of those bad boys, they would have been Thanksgiving dinner, and they do have a date with the axe this weekend (assuming I catch them). But the Swedes haven't acted aggressive to the other birds at all, other than one dropping his wing to one of his brothers the other day. They will live to see another day because of their so-far good dispositions.

Anybody else's hens not wanting to lay in the cold? It has been 6 weeks and no eggs from my SFH hens. This really stinks because its just about time to start incubating.

I only have 3 pullets. It ain't been real cold here, YET. Have had frost 5 times so far. That is a lot for this early in these North Florida woods.
I am getting 2-3 eggs almost every day.
