Swelling On Duck's Toe ~ PICTURE ~ URGENT

She is doing good.

I tried some of the drawing salve. How long do you think that would take to work?
Not sure depends on what is in there if anything. Just keep doing what your doing and hopefully something will work. Nothing from Vet yet?

I just took another look at the pictures of your ducks foot. I can see 1 spot that makes me think this maybe a bumble coming up but it's just not ready to show the classic brown spot yet. Have you tried ice? Put some in a plastic bag or a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel, get her to stand on it for a bit. I doubt she's going to like it very much but it could slow the infection, if that's what this is, down a bit. Is it any bigger? Any change at all? Is her leg or foot hot?

When you say drawing salve, what is it? What is the ingredient list? Something I've learned from others here on BYC and from my own bout of bumblefoot, the pus poultry gets isn't like ours. It's hard and can't be drawn out like it can be in us. Not saying your slave won't work, need to know what the active ingredient is. It may very well sink in and kill some of the bacteria and cause the scabs like you can see in my picture. How long it will take is dependant upon the ingredients in what you're using.

It's a foot infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Duck feet get swollen, with a cheesy kind of pus, and it can go systemic, killing the duck in worst cases. It is not unusual to get this, and treated early and consistently can be managed.

What causes it? Are there tell tale signs other then the swollen feet? And are there any preventatives, that can stop it from accuring in the first place?

Splinters, stickers, small cut can start it up. my one hen had a cut on the bottom of one of her toes, until she was limping I didn't know anything was wrong I have been treating her for about 3 months now and it is just about gone, using iodine on it now, I haven't had to cut thank goodness. going the more less invasive route.

How's it working for you Miss L? I'm hoping your results are as good as mine have been!

I'd like to say it's completely gone but not yet, she isn't limping anymore and the swelling is gone way down. I would just as soon not cut if I don't have to, but will say after I started with the iodine I was able to pull the scab off and there was a small hole with a tiny bit of thick pus, cleaned it out and reapplied the iodine so far so good.
