Good for you, I'll be d*** if I am going to hide in a corner over a flu bug. PLEASE take proper precautions though using common sense, unless this bug has super powers, we can beat it.

From the media and some people panicking you would think the bug has a cape and can leap buildings with a single bound.

Actually, since the flu is a virus it is NOT curable and is only preventable to a certain degree. Personally, I am not afraid of it. I have had flu before. Since I do have an immune compromised 7 y/o it scares me and you can't keep some idiot from sending their sick kid to cough on him in school.

School officials can and should send any sick child home. I believe under Executive Orders at this time they must. Even without the EO if a child is sent home with lice(and should be) school would be very remiss in not sending a child home no matter what typed of flu it is. The practice of sending sick kids to school should have stopped a longggggg time ago.

Well they've shut down the entire very school district in Fort Worth UNTIL MAY 8TH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So instead of catching the swine flu from school, the kids are going to catch it on the street corner where they all congregate and loiter....

This is @#$%@#$ ridiculous....

Today I asked my teenage daughters to refrain from sharing food & beverages with their buddies for 2 weeks, and to be more careful about washing up and general cleanliness. I reminded them that these policies should be full time but I know they disagree, and that they should humor me and cooperate until Mother's Day as a gift to me. They indicated compliance. The fact that a case in TN was announced on the news this morning reinforced the compliance.

That's all the preventative action I plan to take. We already have food, beverages, medicines, and chicken feed stocked up. That's the norm for us.

Sorry Cajun the command has come down from way up high. I do agree with closing for a couple days to sanitize the school then it could be reopened to only those that are well with heightened safety measures. I am afraid we are skirting dangerously close to marshal law and with only a few cases here and one death(a infant and not even a US citizen).

There is no need for all this panic, the media to be honest does not have anybody to kick around now, so they need to blow out of proportion any bad news that is not related to the Oval Office.

People REALLY need to start using some common sense here and stop running in circles. They also need to start to think for themselves instead of letting mainstream media do it for them.

Headline on my local newspaper yesterday morning...More than 30 in Orange on Swine Flu watch list...

The article went on to say that 30 people have flu like symptoms and are already recovering on their own. NY has now informed hospitals and DRs that it will only take 3 samples from each county to test because they are so overwhelmed with it. I realize that the public needs to know and that people need to be reminded about basic precautions (which everyone should do anyway for general cleanliness. Even my soon to be 3y/o knows to cover his mouth and wash his hands, sheesh!), but all the hype is getting outta control! I hope this doesn't progress, but keeping calm and making sure your kids stay home when they show signs of illness is the best way to go with this.
As for the kids being sick and sent to school, I was a 2nd grade teacher before I decided to stay home with my son. People were famous for sending their kids to school with coughs, vomitting, and fevers! They don't want to pay for sitters or take time off, or some couldn't. School is not only a place to learn, but a sitter as well. The rules in most, if not all schools are to not send your kids to school until they are fever free for 24 hours. Meaning nothing over 100 for that time period. The schools can't control the parents from home, they can only quaretine the kids in the nurses office until they are picked up at the end of the day by the parents. Believe me, most frustrating part of the job.
Sorry, had to get that out.
