Symptoms Of Systemic Staph? Bumblefoot

That one foot sure isn't wanting go down. Have you consulted your vet for more guidance?

Poor fella, he looks like he doesn't feel well. Is he eating/drinking o.k.?

I wouldn't put a sweater on him, he needs to be able to fluff his feathers in order to stay warm. A generous amount of hay to snuggle in (along with his lovely lady) and having the wind blocked would be best.

Hi. I've been reading this thread.
I'm sorry for what you are going through with your rooster. Poor guy.
I see the swelling (on the worse foot) and in comparison, the wound itself is showing quite a bit of healing. (Actually both wounds show healing)
You are doing a good job.
This is what I'm wondering:
Is it possible that the generalized swelling of the foot pad has to do with soft tissue trauma from the combination of infection, 2 surgeries and a lot of manipulation trying to get the core out?
How much longer do you have for the amoxicillin?
Pretty sure if your vet went so far as to prescribe it, he/she would be willing to give you another round if you called. If not you could order "fish mox" online.

Edited for spelling.

I'e got 4 days of amoxicillin left. I'l call the vet today and see if he can mail some. It's 1.5 hr drive away. I also have the tricide neo to try. I ordered some herbal tincture but is still hasn't come in yet. I need to email the company... its been quite a while (a week or more) since I ordered.
The swelling is exactly the same as it was when I discovered it :( BUT! His leg is so longer burning up hot! He is eating and drinking well.
I'm going to leave it tonight and check tomorrow. So changing bandages every other day. No poking or prodding to see if the swelling goes down.
It' supposed to get down to 30 degrees tonight, so I'll see if I can wrap the outside bottom of the coop with plastic or something and add more hay inside.

The fact that the leg isn't hot is encouraging and may be telling that the antibiotics are indeed waging war against the infection. If it was only a 7 day course of treatment I'd personally want to extend it.
If you do call your vet, be sure to tell the person you talk to that he IS showing improvement. Amoxicillin sometimes takes a full 2 weeks (or more) to wipe out a stubborn infection but as long as there's improvement there is proof that it is working against the type of infection.
Also, more of my opinion here, I would continue with the soaks at least* once daily.
Soaking increases the capillary response in the area of a wound, injury or infection. This means it increases blood flow which aids in healing and this wound is at the bottom of the foot so it is peripheral circulation at best.
I'd also consider keeping the wound moist, whether it being with drawing salve or veterycin spray gel, on your bandage pad .
I'd be hesitant to have the wound close too fast and trap any lingering infection inside to fester all over again until the antibiotics have finished their work.
It may take a long time for the site swelling to abate.

All of these are just my opinions. I sincerely hope you don't mind my chiming in.

Thank you Staceyj! The vet is mailing more amoxicillin. I'll do the daily soaks but no poking or squeezing. I went back to using silver sulfa cream yesterday when I rebandaged. I really want to try the herbal stuff...as soon as it comes in... sigh.
