Our 2 silkies hatched 4 little RIR (rooster) x white leghorn chicks. I’m really excited to see what these babies will look like. The ACTUAL mamas refused to sit on their eggs. I heard something about hens genetics being messed with so they won’t sit on their eggs. Is that true? Post pictures of y’all’s RIR x white leghorns if y’all have any! Or even yalls new babies in general in the comments!:love

I currently have silkie chicks hatching as we speak, but in our incubator. Yes, our silkie moms make good moms but it broke my heart to steal their babies so I just started hatching their eggs and raising the ones I want to keep myself, selling the rest.

We've also had to twice take over for a silkie hen who would rather be broody in a nest and abandoned her 4 or 6-week-old chicks.

We were going to use a incubator but we didn’t have the area for it yet. Weather has been very sucky here too. I had to take the babies because the ducks are know the plow through the crowd and step on everyone. Ugh. Ducks.:barnie
