Im growing out 2 welsummer roos that I hatched out this summer. They are probably around 4 months old. They are, without a doubt, the UGLIEST chickens I have ever seen. A cross between a starved RIR and a vulture...with a little modern game thrown in. OMG, they are awful. Is this just a stage they are going thru? My girls sure would like a handsome roo this spring, but Im not sure that Batchelor Number One or Two are going to make the grade. They came from good stock, too.

I have a beautiful Welsummer roo who is 6 months old on my BYC page. Check him out!! Wellington is far from ugly, IMO.

He is pretty, but his coloring isnt what Id expect for a Welsummer. At least he looks like a chicken, which mine dont!

Here is my Wellie roo, Chippy. He was 20 weeks old in this photo. I never thought he went through an ugly stage but beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.
Now my EE roos really went through some ugly times! Ewww!

Oh yeah, now THATS a Welsummer. Ill give my 2 guys the benefit of the doubt and give them another month, but if they dont get purdy, they're outta here.

I have some 5 week old Welsummers [not sure if they are roos or pullets yet] and they are cute!

It is definitely a matter of opinion, but mine don't look anything like the ones you are describing.

Do you have any pics of them?

This is mine, with his "girls" inside the pen, which is rare for them. A couple of GLWs are in his harem. All of them kind of keep to themselves when free-ranging and they're usually gone all day into deep brush that the other chickens I have don't seem to venture into.
